Pentecost Sunday
Leadership Message
Farewell to our Support Staff: Thank you for the LOVE
On Friday, May 29 we said farewell to our amazing SJ Support Staff. Our beautiful team of educational assistants, librarians, and evening custodian are amongst Elk Island Catholic's finest crew and we are so grateful for each and every one of them! Their love and commitment to each of our students, staff and parents is to be commended.
Thank you staff, parents and especially, students for sending your messages of gratitude to our support staff. Those gestures and messages of appreciation make a world of difference to our team. It won't be the same without them in June and they will be truly missed.
As we continue our journey in June without our support staff, we may feel a little lost and worried. Here is where the light and hope creeps in. As we celebrate Pentecost today the Gospel reminds us that the Holy Spirit has the power to reach every one of us and surround us with peace and faith. This peace, the hope of all creation, is the gift given today. We can and will persevere together, as the "lemonade makers" of the world. (see video below Dear COVID-19 for the reference).
Blessings,
Mrs. Boehm, Principal

Last week's challenge: What are you reading?
Mrs. Boehm's Weekly Challenge: Share a "rainbow" moment
This week's challenge: Share a rainbow moment with us
On Friday, we shared our "rainbow" message to our students. This week we would love to see what are some of your "rainbow moments" this week. Maybe you smiled when you played with your dog in the backyard or rode your bike. Perhaps you cuddled up with a favourite story or had a picnic with a friend. Maybe your heart smiled when you accomplished a hard task or did an act of kindness for someone. Whatever your rainbow moments were, take a picture and share with us. We cannot wait to see!
Please send your weekly challenge picture to Mrs. Boehm bonnie-lynneb@eics.ab.ca We will post these on our various school sites (Twitter, Facebook, and Weekly Smore).

*New program for Saint John XXIII*: Flexible Pathways
Saint John XXIII will be a designated site for an exciting new program for EICS, Flexible Pathways! Flexible Pathways helps create learning experiences to ensure students with complex learning needs are successful (i.e., students with a diagnosed developmental disability). This program strives to balance our vision and values of inclusive education with interventions and strategies of targeted instruction for our most complex learners.
Our Flexible Pathways program provides a half-day of targeted instruction focused on Literacy, Numeracy, Communication, and Social skills in a structured, yet flexible environment, with experienced teachers giving students the attention and support they need to succeed. Targeted instruction is complemented by inclusive and authentic learning opportunities that allow students to further explore and develop their interests in school environments with peers and appropriate supports.
Flexible Pathways also provides a collaborative structure of support including Educational Assistants, Educational and Behavioural Consultants, Speech-Language Pathologists and Speech-Language Pathology Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Low Vision Consultant, and Deaf & Hard of Hearing supports.
Flexible Pathways is available at the following schools:
- Madonna Catholic School (Early Intervention and ECS), Sherwood Park
- St. John XXIII Catholic School (Early Intervention to grade 4), Fort Saskatchewan
- Holy Spirit Catholic School, (K-4), Sherwood Park
- St. Theresa Catholic School (Grade 5 - 8), Sherwood Park
- Archbishop Jordan Catholic High School, Sherwood Park
