Dear Rosa Parks Families:
We began this year with many unknowns of what would take place this school year and we have persevered through many challenges and disruptions to what we knew school to previously be. Many kudos to our students and families for all of the efforts and commitment to keeping one another safe, keeping us learning, and keeping us healthy and well. We must finish the year strong with the 3 W's:
- Wear your mask
- Wash your hands
- Watch your distance
I would say one of our most powerful tools we all have during this pandemic is our mindset. Maintaining a positive, open mindset during difficult times will help us come out on top.
At Rosa Parks Elementary School we are a Top 20 school. Daily we work to live "above the line" and create a Top 20 culture founded in safety and trust to foster high performance. We strive for the following to be evident and embodied by all pumas:
- Help others succeed
- Communicate "you matter"
- Honor the Absent
- See the problem own the problem
Puma Strong,
Mr. Kamphoff
The Power of Words
Rosa Parks students have been learning about the “power of our words” this month in developmental guidance lessons. They are learning that ‘conflict’ is a normal part of life and when we solve our conflicts in a calm way using our words, everyone feels better. Students are specifically learning to use “I” Statements to express their feelings and thoughts. For example, “I feel frustrated when I can’t use the spinner and I want you to give me a turn.” Or “I feel annoyed when you chew with your mouth open and I want you to chew with your mouth closed.” Or “I feel angry when people around me keep making noise and I want you to please stop tapping your pencil.”
Older students are also reflecting on the “power of words” through social media. When we write something that hurts others, we can’t take it back and we lose control of how our words are used. On the other hand, when we write words that communicate “You Matter”, we can feel proud of ourselves and confident that we’re developing a positive reputation among our peers. As adults, it’s up to us to model how to use the power of our words positively so we can teach by positive example and set our students up for success both now and as they grow up.

TITLE 1 SERVICES AT ROSA PARKS
Rosa Parks is a Schoolwide Title 1 School. In the past, Title 1 funds were available to
provide additional support to students who qualified based on their test scores. As a Schoolwide Title 1 school we are now able to utilize those resources more flexibly to support any students that would benefit. This fits wonderfully with our small group instruction blocks when students receive acceleration or enrichment based on their specific needs. Feel free to contact the school if you have questions.
As a parent, you have the right to request information about the qualifications of your child’s teacher(s). For further information, contact Dan Kamphoff, principal at Rosa Parks Elementary.
