Tiger of the Month: Goal-Oriented Mindset

What We Are Learning

ELA/ Reading

In ELA we are using a new program called Wit and Wisdom. Our goal is to align our reading, writing, and language arts standards to help students generate ideas and become both fluent readers and writers. In September we will focus on the following standards:

Reading-
We will read both literature and informational books as we focus on our essential question, “What does it mean to have a great heart, literally and figuratively?”

Writing-
Students will work to create focus statement and and informational piece with evidence and quotes from the text. They will be learning a number of writing strategies to help guide them in their writing.

Language Arts-
Punctuation is our focus for September! Students will learn how to correctly quote a text, and follow rules for capitalization and commas with adjectives and conjunctions.

We will use our 4C’s throughout the month to collaborate, communicate, show creativity, and use critical thinking skills in groups and individually.

Vocabulary: literal, figurative, main idea, key details, focus statement

Math

In September we will be learning about conversions within the metric system and multi-digit multiplication and division. Our first Common Assessment will be on September 13th.
