From the Principal
It is hard to believe that another school year is coming to an end. I am so happy to be here at Copeland Elementary. We have such a great school!
We are looking forward to our 5th grade Walk of Pride and Farewell on Wednesday, May 24th at 9:15, and our 5th grade Recognition ceremony on Wednesday, May 24th at 6:00 p.m. at Anthony Middle School. Fifth grade parents are encouraged to attend only one of the events as they are the same with the exception of the Walk of Pride.
Next Thursday May 25th is the last day of school. We have our Kindergarten program at 8:45. Our grade level end-of-year parties for AM PK/PPCD, Kindergarten, 2nd, and 3rd grade will be from 9:30-10:00 and from 10:30-11:00 for 1st, 4th, and Life Skills. Our 5th grade Fun Day will be from 11:15-12:45. Our PM PK/PPCD parties will be held from 12:45-1:15. It will be a fun day for all!
Thanks so much for your support of Copeland Elementary. We are blessed with wonderful students, staff, and families. Have a safe and happy summer!

From the Nurse
Dear Parents.
As we are nearing the end of the school year please make arrangements to retrieve your student's medication from the clinic any time by 3:30p.m. on Thursday, May 25th, 2017. Please call the clinic if needed to make other arrangements. Any medication left in the clinic after that time will be discarded!
The District's policy on transportation of medication states: ALL MEDICATION shall be brought to the clinic by the parent or guardian or by another responsible adult and shall be secured there at all times. This includes over the counter medications and cough drops. When the period for administering the medication has expired, the parent, guardian or another responsible adult shall retrieve the medication from the clinic. I appreciate your assistance with this matter.
The clinic is still in need of a clinic coordinator for 2017-2018 school year. This is a two year or longer position. Main responsibility all year is to organize and schedule the certified and uncertified parents for the state mandated vision and hearing screening. This is usually the second week of September which requires touching base with parents at the end of summer and first weeks of school. Past coordinators will be happy to share their previous schedules and words of advice as well as Nurse Cheves. Being organized and a “go-getter done ” attitude are required, as well as having friends you can call in favors from!
Please call Nurse Cheves to express interest and discuss any questions you may have. Copeland Colts and the clinic needs you!
Appreciatively,
Chris Cheves RN

Credit by Exam
Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.
To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
If you are interested in getting more information about credit-by-exam, please contact the school counselor at 281.856.1400 or kathryn.nomura@cfisd.net.
