Reading
In January we will be reading a story called Nacho and Lolita. This story is about a rare and majestic bird named Nacho, the only pitachoche for thousands of miles. He is proud of his brilliant feathers and haunting songs, but finds they are no good if there is no one to share them with. Nacho is ecstatic one day when the swallows come to nest and Nacho mets Lolita, a sparrow, who fills his heart with affection. A problem arises when the swallows have to migrate back to South America leaving Nacho behind. A great discussion with your child tonight may be to ask him/her how the problem solved.
January and February also bring some wonderful historical literature revolving around Martin Luther King, Jr, Women's History, and Black History.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION SHOES
Mrs. Shaw has had a lot of students who have been coming to physical education class without any tennis shoes. She has asked that your child come prepared for class. One thing that we have found helpful is to send your child to school with an old pair of shoes that they can house in their cubby. That way if they have a day that they forget their shoes they have them available to them.
Physical Education schedule:
McLean - Tuesday
Dhaseleer - Wednesday
Cowan - Thursday
UPCOMING REMINDERS
- Spelling homework will be coming home tomorrow. We would also like your child to work on their bookshare, reading calendar, and rocket math.
- January calendars will be due February 3rd or before!
PLEASE DRESS YOUR CHILD FOR THE WEATHER
With winter weather upon us, it is important that the students dress appropriately each day. We go out for recess daily. Please be sure that your child is dressed warmly for the day. Please label your child’s snow pants, coats, etc. with their first and last name. Thank You!
iPad Reminders:
*Find a safe location where the iPad can be housed each time it is home and not being used.
*The iPad is an educational tool, even though the school has a strong blocker, you should ALWAYS be aware of what your child is doing on the iPad.
