ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) EXAMS REMINDER
It is an expectation at Glenbard that any students enrolled in an AP course will also take the course AP exam in May. The cost of a student’s AP exam(s) is factored into school registration fees at the beginning of the school year. The D87 School Board has made the investment to pay for one AP exam for every Glenbard student every year. All subsequent exams are $96—except AP Seminar and AP Research, which are $144. Contact our AP Coordinator Beth Mcnett if you have questions: beth_mcnett@glenbard.org.
GLENBARD EAST STUDENT LEADERSHIP - FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP DAY APPLICATION

All the participants will go through extensive leadership training led by the Glenbard East Leadership team and the 2022-2023 Senior Leaders. The students will also attend sessions on negotiation and problem solving skills, acting with courage, and specific methods of leadership. The theme for the 2022-2023 Leadership Program is: Courage Creates Change at Glenbard East High School. We strongly believe that participating in this leadership day will have a significant and positive impact on our school and your son/daughter. The cost of the leadership day is $12 per student. The $12 fee includes training, snacks, and a t-shirt.
We would like your son/daughter to participate in this leadership training. Please click HERE to fill out the form by Thursday, October 27th. Please feel free to contact either Donna Slusher (donna_slusher@glenbard.org) or Nicole Miller (nicole_miller@glenbard.org) with any questions.
8TH GRADERS TO VISIT GLENBARD EAST
In an effort to begin the transition process from middle school to high school, current 8th graders from Glenn Westlake and Marquardt Middle Schools are scheduled to visit Glenbard East on Thursday, November 17th, and Friday, November 18th, respectively. The purpose of these visits is to acclimate our future 9th graders to the school building and expose them to the various elective opportunities in Fine Arts, Technology and Engineering, Business, Family and Consumer Sciences, and World Languages. This information will be important to them as they prepare for the course selection process which will take place during the month of January.
FRESHMAN CLASSES & CAREERS
Counselors will visit all Freshmen Biology classes on November 22nd and December 6th. During these visits, we will complete a “Find Your Path Assessment” with School Links, our new College and Career readiness platform. They will also play a career jeopardy game and review course enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year.

The Glenbard East Staffulty of the Month Award has been established to recognize outstanding
people for their dedication, professionalism, and work. Those receiving this award are nominated by administrators, colleagues, and students for exhibiting our D87 Profile of an Educator tenants.
Each month, we recognize two staff members based on their advocacy for students, empathy for
others, critical thinking, embracing diversity, innovation, and collaboration.
Congratulations to this month's honorees!!!
DONNA SLUSHER
Donna Slusher was nominated by a staff member and two students for exhibiting the following Profile of an Educator competencies: Advocates, Empathizes, Thinks Critically, Embraces Diversity, Innovates, Collaborates. Here is what they had to say:
"Donna Slusher advocates for all students in this building. She helps students find their voice and use it to make opportunities for themselves. Donna offers the students of Glenbard East the chance to add to their high school experience. The time and effort that she puts into this building does not go unnoticed. If a student wants to get involved, Donna will help them find a club or activity. If [a student] has an idea, Donna will help them find the resources that they need in order to execute it. If a student needs a positive adult in their life, Donna will always be that. As a new teacher at Glenbard East, I look up to Donna and all of the amazing things that she does for this community. Donna looks at the Whole Student and understands that students do not just come to school to learn, they come here to grow and change their lives and those lives around them. Glenbard East is a better place because of Donna Slusher."
"Ms. Slusher goes above and beyond for those she knows and doesn’t know! Slusher is the reason I haven't given up. Everytime I walk past her she smiles and embraces everyone. She is the light that shines into my world."
"I believe Mrs. Slusher deserves this award for all of the students she has helped out. Mrs. Slusher is so sweet and always puts her students first and thinks of everyone before herself. She has helped me through summer school when I was new to this school and didn’t know anyone or where anything was. She had also helped me throughout this school year and in the Lake Geneva trip. She has made my experience of Glenbard East amazing and welcomes everyone with open arms."
ANDREW BERO
Andrew Bero was nominated by 6 students for the exhibiting the following Profile of an Educator competencies: Advocates, Empathizes, Thinks Critically, Embraces Diversity, Innovates, Collaborates. Here is what they had to say:
"Mr. Bero has the wonderful ability to think of his feet and change whatever needed to make something work. He is also a very kind and empathetic person and will make sure you are happy and comfortable."
"He is always thinking about others and he accepts everyone he is so kind"
"It is my honor to select Mr. Bero because his amazing effort in making sure our class is open and ready for class each day! Everyday he is always up and ready to go with some big exercise we all love! He is the best teacher I’ve ever had!"
"Mr. Bero is the kindest and most empathetic teacher I’ve ever met. Just one class with him and it would become wildly clear how much he cares for his students. Mr. Bero will take the time to really understand students and ask questions because he’s genuinely interested in what they have to say. He’s incredibly flexible with student work, all while having the class be functional and exceeding. Not only that, but Mr. Bero is more than willing to encourage students to speak about their culture, experiences, and identity. It is clear to me that Mr. Bero isn’t just a model staff member, but exceeds the meaning of being a fantastic teacher."
"He is an amazing teacher that is working to help us in a field that needs so much open conversation and acceptance and vulnerability and does it in away no one has felt the need to cry."
"Mr. Bero is a very sweet teacher. He always starts of the class with making sure everyone is ok. And if someone isn’t he does his best to help them feel ok or help them get to a point where they are even just a little bit better. He comes up with super fun ideas for class that are learning experiences but also class bonding and entertaining. He never discriminates against people and makes sure everyone is included and comfortable with what we’re doing. He tries to empathize with us by making sure we know that our feeling are valid and that our voices are heard."
