November Meeting Recap
The monthly Board of Education Meeting was held on Monday, November 14 at the District 146 Administration Center.
The Board of Education received the following reports:
- Dr. Jeff Stawick, Superintendent, recognized the Board for their service and dedication to the District in honor of School Board Members Day in Illinois. School Board Member day is Tuesday, November 15.
- Heard that the District will be recognizing National Education Week this week (November 13-19).
- Veterans were honored at all of the schools during special assemblies on Veterans Day.
- The South Cook ISC-4 conducted a Health Life and Safety inspection on November 9 at all school and District buildings. For the third year in row, the District received a perfect score. Dr. Stawick congratulated Matt Shanahan, the Director of Buildings and Grounds, and his team on their hard work and diligence.
- Wendy Wolgan, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, updated the Board on after-school professional development opportunities for staff.
- The Joint Annual Conference is this week and the Board was provided with the information they need to attend
- A new District-wide newsletter will be distributed to families each trimester with the goal of being an additional interactive communication with families. The first newsletter will be sent this week.
- The Educational Support Professional (ESP) Union president reported that this is the season for many drives and fundraisers at the schools. Staff is having a great time encouraging school spirit and helping the community by participating in these events with the students.
- Business Director Jeff Charleston shared information on the preliminary tax levy. The Board will vote on the levy at the December meeting.
The Board took the following action:
- Approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the City Oak Forest regarding crossing guards for Fierke Education Center.
- Approved the replacement of the south playground at Kruse Education Center with a budget of $125,000. The playground is 20 years old and in need of replacement. The District is applying for a School Maintenance Project Grant that will cover $50,000 of the project.
- Approved the application for the School Maintenance Project Grant.
- Approved the District's membership in purchasing co-ops.
- Approved an overnight field trip for Memorial 5th grade students to White Pines Ranch in Oregon, IL.

Next Board Meeting
The Board of Education will meet for their regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, December 12 at the Robert Procunier Administration Center, 6611 W. 171st Street, Tinley Park.
