Pierce Downer This Week
Week of May 16-20
Pierce Downer Families-
This was another eventful week filled with ABC countdown days, a visit from DGFD for our first grade students, student council spirit days, PTA volunteer luncheon, a visit from Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell and the Pie a Teacher event at the end of the day on Friday.
This weekend the festivities continued with the PLAY! at Pierce "Fore the Kids" golf outing. While the weather did not cooperate for the golf, I was humbled to see the dedication and commitment our families have to our students and school!
We are quickly approaching the end of the school year and I am so happy when I reflect on this year and the resilience we have shown, at the same time being excited for the strong finish we are making and the work we will be doing to prepare for next school year. Thank you for being a part of the magic here at Pierce Downer!
Coming up this week we are continuing our ABC countdown, the PTA is having the last Dine Out on Thursday at Bar Chido along with an event at Orange and Brew.
Please remember the doors open each morning at 8:10 and class begins at 8:15.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns via email LWagner@DG58.org or call 630-719-5860.
We are PD!

Sharing MAP scores with Students
In prior MAP administrations, students' scores were displayed on the screen immediately after they completed the assessment. While we believe it is important for students to understand their performance on assessments as it relates to their achievement and growth, we also want to ensure that the information they view is provided with context and support from their teachers and families.
Beginning this spring, students will no longer see their scores after completing the MAP tests; the scores will be sent home to families with report cards in June. In some cases, teachers may discuss scores with students as part of goal-setting or reflecting on the school year. If this does occur it will be part of a contextualized activity rather than simply displaying the student's score for them. This slight shift is a district-level change for this spring based upon feedback we have received from several past MAP administrations. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Justin Sisul, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction.
PLAY! at Pierce
Thank you to all of the families who attended and/or supported the first ever PLAY! at Pierce Golf Outing! This event was well-attended and a huge success despite the challenging weather. This is such a testament to the possibilities we can accomplish when we are committed to the cause!
A special thank you to the Play! At Pierce committee for putting the event together and all of the sponsors for their support.
Safe2Help Illinois
District 58 has partnered with Safe2Help to give students a safe and confidential way to report potential threats or crises. Safe2Help was launched by the State of Illinois in December 2020 and aims to help prevent suicide, bullying, school violence and other threats to school safety.
With Safe2Help, students can connect with a trained crisis professional during their own crisis, or to report a potential threat. Students can submit a Safe2Help alert via the following ways:
- Website: https://app.safe22helpil.com
- Text: SAFE2 (72332)
- Phone: 844-4-SAFEIL (844-472-3345)
- App: "Safe2Help Illinois" app available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store
- Email: HELP@Safe2HelpIL.com
All alerts are responded to by a trained Safe2Help crisis professional. Safe2Help is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
District 58 staff are not the initial responders to the alert and will receive each alert after the Safe2Help professional provides support. District 58 staff will review alerts sent by Safe2Help during regular school hours, unless the nature of the alert necessitates immediate school action.
