Our Town Happenings - Week #3

Reagan Elementary :: Leander Independent School District

Week of September 8 - September 11, 2015

WELCOME TO 4TH GRADE!

We believe that one of the biggest indicators of a child's success in school is the communication flow between school and home. To that end, we will be communicating what's happening around our hood on a weekly basis. We'll highlight the current week's activities, what's coming up on the horizon, homework expectations, and any other additional information that you may find helpful as 4th grade parents. We often err on the side of over-informing to ensure you have all the information you need to help us partner together in making this a great year for your child. We know your time is valuable and your email boxes overflowing, but please take a moment to read our memo each week.

Weekly newsletters may also be found archived on our class website under the "Weekly Newsletters" page. Questions and/or comments? Please let us know!

Our Best,

Karen & Stephanie

OUR TECH TOWN

We know that kids - even our big, grown up 4th graders - love, and learn through, legos, music, playdoh, dancing, running, playing...and we work hard with our classes to ensure that our students are exposed to all of those opportunities and more.

We also know that kids love and learn from technology, and at the rate our world is changing, we believe we do a disservice to our students if we don't attempt to blend the two learning models. We are preparing our students for jobs that most likely don't currently exist, and want to do our best to expose them to modalities that will help them be successful in their future.

Over the course of the year, there are several apps that we will use on a fairly regular basis for class activities. While we may not use them daily, we will use them often enough that it would be beneficial for your child to have quick access to them.

If your child brings in a device that is able to download apps, we'd appreciate it if you'd consider adding the apps below. There are other apps we will use throughout the course of the year, and we will notify you before we use them so you may download them if you're able. If your child does not bring in his/her own device, we have ones available to share in the classroom.

For more info or specific suggestions, please visit the TechTown page of our website linked below.

HEADPHONES / EARBUDS

If your child has an extra pair of inexpensive headphones or earbuds at home that they could keep in their backpack or at school, we'd appreciate it! Please make sure they're clearly labeled with your child's name.

UPCOMING DATES

Below you will find upcoming dates for the first semester that will affect your 4th grader; please update your calendars accordingly. Please understand that dates are subject to change and more than likely will, but we will keep this list current to the best of our ability. To assist you in keeping your calendars updated, any additions or changes from the previous week's memo will be in bold.

CURIOUS AS TO WHAT WE DO ALL DAY?

If your child is less than forthcoming about how his/her day was, peek into our world by following us on Twitter. We tweet about our learning every week! Follow our class account at @Our4thGradeTown. If you're not on Twitter but still want to know what's happening, you can find our class Twitter feed on our webpage. We tweet about our learning several times throughout the week.

Weekly memos will be sent via email as well. If your address changes, please let us know so we can keep our records current.

REMIND - A GREAT WAY TO STAY CONNECTED!

For those of you with children in middle and/or high school, you're probably familiar with Remind and how valuable it can be in helping keep up with your childrens' schedules! We use it in Our Town as well in an attempt to make your life as a parent just a little bit easier. With Remind, we can send you texts with time sensitive reminders or last minute schedule changes (for example, "Picture Day tomorrow!", or "Field Trip on Friday; please fill out permission slip if you haven't done so") that are beneficial for you to know.

To subscribe to the service, text @f95693 to the number 81010. If you have trouble using the 81010 number, text @f95693 to (636)442-1203. Texts will be limited in frequency, but you may unsubscribe at any time by replying with "unsubscribe @f95693".For more info regarding Remind, see the link below.
