Highlighting some Math Ideas and Strategies

Using Legos in Math Class

Legos are extremely popular with the boys, but recently more and more girls are getting into Legos. A large number of your students probably play with or have played with Legos at some point in their life.

So, how can we bring Legos into the math classroom to help students understand some of the math concepts being taught. The link below is the best article I could find on this ever growing idea of Using Legos in the Math Classroom.

TIM'S TAKE on LEGOS

In my opinion use whatever works best for your students. If you have some kids that are struggling or you just want to make it a little more fun, then incorporate some of these Lego ideas into your lessons. You might just find out that the only way someone gets the concept you are teaching is by using Legos to explain it.

Also, Legos in a Math Station or Math Center sounds like a good idea.

TenMarks.com covers Grades 1 through Algebra 2 and Geometry

TenMarks.com was purchased by AMAZON last year. Amazon is getting into the education business and believes it bought the best math site out there. They will spend money to improve the site and make the student and teacher experience second to none.

TIM'S TAKE on TenMarks.com

I have used this site for a few years. I first starting using this site with my kindergarten students that were pretty with it when it comes to math skills. There is nothing on the site for kinder, so I signed them up as first graders and went from there. The students and their parents really liked the site and were impressed with what the children could do. Last year I used it with my 5th grade math groups and saw the students being more engaged when on the site compared to other sites.

Non-Readers will need parents help.

This is a great site for homework or to Reteach a concept in a different way.
