Groundhog Day
Do your eyes light up when they walk in the room?
Greetings from the virtual desk of The Nurtured Heart Approach...
“What would you do if you were stuck in one place and every day was exactly the same and nothing you did mattered?” Bill Murray, Groundhog Day (1993)
Yup. The longer we are in this crazy COVID loop, the more I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog day. How about you? But just like Bill’s character, Phil, we can do something that really does matter so that when this “day” does eventually end, we will have something worthwhile to show for it. It could be better eating or spending habits. A deeper appreciation for a job, healthcare, or family. How about building our children to have more inner wealth, resiliency or self-control?
The Nurtured Heart Approach is an avenue to help your children see your eyes light up when they walk in the room through the use of three stands:
Absolutely NO!- I refuse to energize negative behavior.
Absolutely YES!- I will relentlessly energize the positive.
Absolutely CLEAR!- I will maintain total clarity about rules that demonstrate fair and consistent boundaries.
It is definitely worth the 4:49 minute investment to view this excerpt of an interview of Oprah and Nate Berkus to see the lasting impact that Stand 2 has in real life.
Last week, we asked you just observe how your child was accessing connection with you. When did you show up BIG? See "Start Here- NHA" link below if you didn’t get a chance to read last week’s entry.
Challenges for the week:
1.Consciously avoid giving any (or just low) energy to misbehaviors
2. Strive to relentlessly see and express appreciation for positive choices, large and small, that your child makes
3. Tell your child what that evidence says about them- they have self-control, are patient, resilient, helpful, honest, etc.
How great will it be when your child is able to identify their own greatness and you are able to say that it all started on “groundhog day”?!
“ Really seeing someone for the BEST they can be. That’s what LOVE feels like.” (Nate Berkus)
To you and your child's Significance, Humanity & GREATNESS!!!!
