MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

As we recalled Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, we now enter into the story of the passion, where we are challenged to do our part to ensure that God’s people are empowered to share in that new life, not only spiritually, but physically as well. We give with compassion and mercy. Easter is a message of HOPE. Every Easter I remember the words of Michael Leunig. They are so challenging and so profound. I hope they have a similar impact on you:

“That which is Christ-like within us shall be crucified. It shall suffer and be broken. And that which is Christ-like within us shall rise up. It shall love and create.”

Yesterday we, as a school, walked the Stations of the Cross. The children did readings and prayers for Holy Week which was supported by 24/7 Youth Ministry with music. Thank you Mrs Killalea for coordinating this very special reflection and thank you to all staff and children involved, it was a very reverent and reflective focus. Bravo!

I wish all families the joy of the Resurrection this Easter. What a wonderful but challenging term this has been! Well done to all our children for doing their best in all areas of their development. I thank all children and staff for their hard work and commitment to learning and look forward to continuing our journey next term.

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Parent/Teacher Interviews Monday. I do hope feedback was effective with something positive, a discussion about expectations, and then where to next for your child’s learning moving forward.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank my staff for their outstanding work and commitment to our St Luke’s family, and parents for their continual support of our school. We are all ready for a rest and a holiday, and I pray that the next two weeks will be a happy, peaceful time for everyone.

Thank you to the P&F and School Advisory Council for their hard work once again and for their commitment to our school’s vision, being a school that is strong in community. This was clearly evident by the overwhelming attendance at Evening on the Green and the Fathers’ Group sleepover this term. A very special thank you to Mr Rego for coordinating the sleepover and to Mr Metaxas, Mr Rooney, Mr Proud, Mr Day and Mr Kirry for being wonderful contributors and support for the sleepover too. Awesome job gents, BRAVO!

Thank you to all the children, staff and families who supported Paint Me A Rainbow Autism Awareness last week. We raised $242.00, which will go towards purchasing more resources for our Bright Start programme and Sensory Room.

A reminder to all parents that Term 2 commences Monday, 19 April.

Winter Uniform

A reminder to all parents that next term all students are required to be in winter uniform. To assist parents and students in this transition, a two-week change-over period will be permitted. However, all students are required to be in full winter uniform by the commencement of Week 3. Please refer to the Uniform Policy on the school website for further information.

I wish everyone a wonderful term two as I look forward to time away from the busyness of school. My focus will be to improve my well-being while I am away. I will continue praying for our beautiful community and I will see you all in term three.

God bless,

Andrew Kelly

MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS

Stations of the Cross

Many thanks to the parents who attended our interactive Stations of the Cross. Unfortunately the Pre-primary and Year 1 children were rained upon in the last session. It was still a very worthwhile exercise as the children were able to reflect and connect with their chosen station.

A special thank you to the 24/7 ministry team who led us through the stations. A huge thank you to staff and students who have contributed their talent and creative skills with the completion of the individual crosses. Mr Adam Graffin (Mrs Graffin’s husband), who assisted in the installation of the crosses at no cost. Your kindness will always be remembered. Thanks to Robert (Groundsperson) for his work in planting new trees and seedlings and assisting Mr Graffin with the crosses and in particular the concreting of the Roman Numeral numbers to each cross.

As these crosses are now a permanent reminder of Jesus’s journey throughout Holy Week, it allows students, staff and parents to reflect on the great work that God has done for each of us. Please take the time to view each cross.

The final cross ends in the new prayer reflective garden which was completed by the Kindy children. (Now situated at the front of the Performing Arts Centre). Work has begun in cleaning and planting beautiful trees to make this space as sacred and reflective as possible. More work will be carried out soon.

Cyber Safety & Digital Wellness Workshops

We have been fortunate to secure a highly regarded expert, Kayelene Kerr Dip(PublicSaf), AdvDip(PublicSaf), BA(Just) to facilitate our parents and students through a series of information sessions next term. Kayelene’s company, eSafeKids, delivers engaging and sought after prevention education workshops to educate, equip and empower children and young people, and to help support parents, carers, educators and other professionals. Kayelene believes protecting children from harm is a shared responsibility and she aims to inspire the trusted adults in children’s lives to tackle sometimes challenging topics.

Wednesday 21st April: Student Workshops Years 3 – 6.

Wednesday 21st April: Compulsory Parent Workshop Years 3 -6 (6.00 - 8.30pm).

Tuesday 27th April: Parent Workshop Pre K- Year 2 (6.00 - 8.30pm).

We have intentionally aligned the student sessions and senior parent workshop on the same day to assist in the conversations you may have at home as a family. As this workshop is compulsory please mark your diaries now in advance.

A big thank you must go to our P&F for funding these workshops so they will be of no cost for our families to attend. We are so grateful to our hard-working P&F for supporting this initiative which will benefit our families at St Luke’s.

Thank you to all our wonderful students, teachers and parents for such a fabulous start to 2021. We hope you all have a lovely holiday break with some special quality time with your family and friends. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all again in Term 2!

St Luke's Fathers' Group - Sleepout 2021

St Luke’s Fathers' Group is an initiative founded to foster a strong school community and develop links with the wider community. Our aim is to support fathers and father figures of the school through connection, while positively engaging with the children in their lives.

The inaugural Dads and Kids School Sleepout was a huge success. Thanks to all the dads, father figures, and kids that came along to make this night the success it was.

With over 84 families and 205 people attending, it was always going to be a big challenge to work out exactly where everyone was going to sleep! In the true St Luke’s community spirit, tents were erected with minimal fuss and a mini village was formed. With Pizzas, a movie for the kids, and homemade fun, the night went quickly, and eventually, everyone was able to settle in for some well-earned rest.

Special thanks to Mr Kelly and Mr Kirry for their assistance and generosity in supporting this event. What a treat to have a coffee van arrive at sunrise and bacon and egg burgers cooked by a team of volunteer dads the next morning.

The highlight of the event was to see the dads and father figures connect with each other in a social setting.

The next Fathers’ Group event is the Father – Son Camp on the 11th and 12th of June 2021 at Nanga Bush Camp Dwellingup. Hope to see you there!
