Principal's Message
A huge thank you to our families and staff for diligently wearing properly fitting masks, washing hands, physical distancing and staying at home when sick. If you have questions about whether your child should stay home, please refer to this document for current guidelines. I've also added our District Nurse contact information below (see the Contacting Nurses re: COVID-19 section) for your reference.
Schools continue to be among the safest places due to layered mitigation measures being followed carefully. For everyone's safety, the District has determined that extending our added safety measures is prudent at this time. Please be aware that we will continue to postpone volunteers and guests in our schools, and masks will be required on campus at all times, including recess, for the time being. These added protocols will be evaluated every two weeks. We appreciate your grace and patience as we continue to navigate these challenging times.
be well,
Melissa Griffiths

Contacting Nurses re: COVID-19, Keep Student Home Until Your Receive a Response
Dear LOSD Families,
Thank you for contacting our district nurses with your COVID-19 related concerns. Our nurses are responding to each inquiry in the order that they are received. Due to the high volume of calls and emails they are experiencing, please expect a delayed response of up to 24 hours.
If you are emailing regarding a positive COVID-19 case or exposure, please keep your student home until you receive a response. Please click here for the current school exclusion guidelines.
If your student has tested positive for COVID-19, please email the nurse for your student’s school the following information and a nurse will get back to you as soon as possible:
Student’s First and Last Name
School
Date symptoms started, if any symptoms
Date tested positive and where the test was taken
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Hallinan School Nurses,
Ann Nelson nelsona@loswego.k12.or.us

OBOB
With COVID cases on the rise, we are committed to doing everything we can to make OBOB happen for our hardworking and wonderful kids this year. The state Oregon Battle of the Books tournament has been canceled, but regional tournaments will take place (for now) in April virtually. Local schools are being asked to make their own decisions and arrangements to declare a winning team by March 11 that will advance to regionals. We are strongly considering outdoor in-person OBOB battles for Hallinan students if indoor in-person battles are not possible by mid-February. Please stay tuned for further communications both here and sent directly to your team leads. We will not be sending emails to every parent/guardian of an OBOB participant; the parent/guardian designated as your team lead/coach is responsible for forwarding these updates to everyone on your team. Thank you for your patience and understanding and happy reading! Please reach out with questions to Lindsey Hargrove (lindseymhargrove@gmail.com) or Gillian Flaccus-Irving (grflaccus@msn.com).
Help Wanted
Are you looking for opportunities to be more involved in the happenings at Hallinan? Maybe you'd like to meet more fellow parents or interact more directly with the teachers and staff? You're in luck! We're currently recruiting board members for next year - no experience required! If you're interested, reach out to Erin at hallinanpresident@gmail.com.

Oregon State Assessment Opt-Out Form
Every year, Oregon students take assessments to meet federal requirements. The purpose of these assessments is to provide data that schools can use to ensure each and every child is on track and achieving learning goals.
State law requires us to inform you that a form is available from the State Department of Education that allows you to opt your child out of the math and English Language Arts assessments for the current school year. Should you wish to opt out your child, fill out the form and submit it to the main office at your child’s school. Please note the submission deadlines listed on the form. Meeting the deadline will help the school with planning and preparation. If you wish your child not to participate in the science assessment for grades 5, 8, and 11, submit this request in writing to the principal of your child's school.
If you would like to opt out your child from state testing, have questions or want more information about state assessments, please click on the form below or contact your child’s principal or teacher(s).
