Ohlone Family Connection

Changes
The orange sky has certainly cast an unusual vibe on the day. I am hopeful that our earth will find some relief soon and that people are safe. I feel gratitude for our firefighters and frontline workers who support the health and well-being of others.
There has been no shortage of opportunities where we have needed to assess, reassess, adjust, and pivot in response to a constantly changing landscape to meet the needs of our students. I am proud of us. I am proud of our students. We are their models for resilience. They are most certainly ours.
If you attended last night's board meeting, you may have heard about plans for our possible return to school on October 12th. We are working through the details. I will host a Principal's Tea at the end of the month when I will have more information to share. I will keep you informed throughout. I would highly suggest that you attend the next board meeting on September 22.
In the meantime, we will continue to share stories, read, write, solve math problems, exercise, make music, and explore! I have included some great resources on how to talk to your children about race in the Parent Ed sections below along with a great animated short called Hair Love. One of my favorites.
Please take care of yourselves. Hug those adorable children. Play a board game. Bake bread. And laugh :).

Site Council & Student Feedback
To promote a positive school climate, Site Council will be gathering student feedback. We want to know what is working well for Ohlone students and what they find most challenging. A bit of formative assessment to inform our instruction and home support! We hope to gain insight from our students before reaching out to parents and staff for input. I will be meeting with each class informally to hear what they have to say :).
Student Council
This year, we will invite 2nd through 5th grade to participate as Student Council Reps. We will have an older and a younger from each class and one alternate (either grade). The alternate is welcome to attend all meetings. Our Virtual Flex Room can accommodate everyone! Student Council Reps will be selected in their classrooms. Cluster 2 will serve as liaisons for Cluster 1 so that their tiny voices are represented as well :). First meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 18th at lunch.
Library Book Distribution Plan
Grace has created a great plan for distributing library books. Time to get books in hands! This will begin in October. More to come soon!
