NEWS and NOTES

Welcome back from Spring Break!!! I hope everyone had an opportunity to rest, relax, and enjoy time with family and friends. We begin the final stretch drive of the year....time to make sure we are doing all we can for our students to meet their academic and social needs! The push continues!


PLC's will take on a different look for fourth quarter. In order to better support your work and make it more focused, we will have content PLC's that combine data analysis and planning. We will begin each meeting analyzing data (assessments, student work samples, etc.), then continue by planning rigorous instruction to remediate deficits and enrich strengths. These meetings will be gradually released to you for facilitation. See above for respective grade level schedules. Click this link for your grade level's PLC Agenda.


As mentioned in an email before break, you will need to upload more artifacts into your SFS account. By April 6, 2016, you should have a total of 18 pieces of evidence linked to 6 indicators in Domains 1 and 3. Additionally, I will begin the final round of short observations when we return from Spring Break. These will be unannounced.


The focus of the short observations will be on the posting of I CAN statements, the referencing of these statements throughout the lesson, and how you engage students in the content. These were areas of opportunity for us after our IDOE visit in January and need to be strengthened prior to the return visit on May 26th.


The window for ISTEP Part II will begin on Monday, April 18th and conclude on Friday, May 6th. This part of the test is worth 70% of the overall score. This window is longer and contains more parts- three sections of Math, three sections of ELA, and two sections of Science and Social Studies. The testing schedule, including modifications to the master schedule, will be finalized this week and sent with the next Cardinal Chronicle.


Rules and procedures should be covered beginning Monday and reviewed daily upon our return from break. This means reteaching and reviewing as long as it takes for students to master them! We will have Cardinal Cash in your boxes, ready to reinforce students for displaying the appropriate behaviors.
