LHS Tennis Team 1st at Back-to-Back Meets, then another 2nd
The LHS Tennis Team has been busy these past couple of weeks. On September 14th, they hosted a double dual with St John and Ashland. As a team, Lyons took first place with 14 team points, outscoring the other two teams combined.
The team greeted Park Elementary students entering school on Monday morning for Homecoming week.
That afternoon, they played in another double dual, this time with CKL opponents Hillsboro and Nickerson. The outcome was the same with Lyons winning the team title.
On Tuesday, the girls finished in 2nd place out of 5 teams.
Lopez & Clayton Runner Up at Wichita Collegiate Debate
Congratulations to Kassia Lopez and Braxton Clayton (and coaches Hershberger and Lowery) for their runner up finish at the Wichita Collegiate JV debate tournament!
Lyons High School Agriculture Program Receives Another Greenhouse Grant
The Lyons High School agriculture program has received another grant for their new greenhouse. The Patterson Family Foundation from Kansas City awarded a Career and Technical Education grant to the LHS ag program in the amount of $11,225. The grant will be used to purchase the supplies and equipment necessary to begin growing plants for use and for sale and to build wheelchair accessible ramps into the building.
LHS Football Team and Cheerleaders welcome Park students
The LHS football team and cheerleaders were the welcoming committee Friday morning when Park Elementary students arrived to school on Homecoming day.
Homecoming Community Pep Rally Draws Large Crowd
The Homecoming pep rally was held downtown on the south side of the courthouse square where K-12 students, staff, parents, and community members gathered to wish the football team well. The Pride of Lyons Marching Band led the parade from the high school to the courthouse and played several numbers. Student Council officers and cheerleaders led cheers, chants, and games. Team, classes, and organizations arrived on floats and on foot. Central Elementary students won the loudest school bragging rights. It was a beautiful day for an outdoor pep rally with over a thousand in attendance!
Football Moms
A couple of weeks ago, the LHS football dads put the Lions decals on their sons' helmets. This week the football moms got involved by decorating the locker room before the Homecoming game. Thank you moms and lucky ladies!
Rivera and Guzman Crowned Homecoming King and Queen
Lyons High School seniors Danny Rivera and Alexa Guzman were crowned as Homecoming King and Queen at Friday night's game versus Haven. Congrats, Danny and Alexa!
Lyons High School to Host Cross Country
You've heard about the early season successes of the middle school and high school cross country teams. Now is your chance to watch them at home. Lyons will host their annual invitational cross country meet this Tuesday, September 26 at LHS. The race start times are shown here with the route maps below.
4:00 p.m. Middle School 7th boys and girls (10 medals each race)
4:25 p.m. Middle School 8th boys and girls (10 medals each race)
4:40 p.m. Girls JV 5K race (10 medals)
5:10 p.m. Boys JV 5K race (10 medals)
5:40 p.m. Girls Varsity 5K race (15 medals)
6:10 p.m. Boys Varsity 5K race (15 medals)
6:40 p.m. Presentation of team awards
