Pasco High School Weekly Newsletter
Week 5, Quarter 1
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
I would like to remind everyone to please make sure we are continuing to follow all of the new protocols. Please complete the self-screeners each morning prior to attending school. If you are not feeling well, please stay home.
Parents, it is extremely important that we make sure we are following the masks requirements at all events. During the past week, we have had several parents not following the mask requirement at our sporting events. Please understand that you may be ask to leave the event if you cannot comply with wearing a mask. Please help us keep our athletes and community safe, WEAR YOUR MASK!
Daily Screeners
Parents, we are counting on you to screen your student for illness every morning before you send them off to school. The district will NOT be providing a DAILY health screening for either students or staff.
Use this Link to access a Student Screener.
Students exhibiting any of the following symptoms should remain home and not attend school: (Student Illness Exclusion Letter).
Fever (greater than 100.4);
Sore throat;
New uncontrolled cough, that causes difficulty breathing (for students with chronic allergic/ asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);
Diarrhea, vomiting or abdominal pain;
New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever. ***
Other symptoms listed by the CDC include chills, fatigue/muscle or body ache, new loss of taste or smell, and congestion or runny nose. Many children have very mild or no signs or symptoms of illness.
If you still have questions about when to seek emergency medical attention.
Expectations for Picking up Ill Students: Parents if your student becomes ill while at school, you will need to have a plan for timely pick up. The CDC states that in developing plans for placing students with symptoms in an isolation area, schools should be mindful of appropriate safeguards to ensure that students are isolated in a non-threatening manner, within the line of sight of adults, and for very short periods of time.
Other Considerations:
It will be important for families to emphasize and model healthy behaviors at home and to talk to their students about changes to expect this school year (social distancing, face coverings, hand hygiene). Consider using this checklist for families to prepare for in-person education.
Need to report an absence?
Progress Reports are available for review on MyStudent. Please take a few minutes and review your student's progress.

PHS MySchool Online FSA EOC/Retakes Test Day Selection Form
The FSA End of Course and Reading Retakes has begun. These assessments are secure state tests, and must be given at school by certified test administrators. Some of the students have received invitations through Canvas messaging already, or may receive one soon. When your child receives the invitation, please go to the test below and mark which one they are scheduled for and confirm they will be able to make their test time, or choose an alternative date/time.
FSA/EOC Retakes are here!
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that students will be taking the computer-based ELA Writing and ELA Reading Retake and/or Algebra 1, Biology 1, Geometry, U.S. History End-of-Course (EOC) assessment(s). The window for testing opens September 14th for all tests and closes November 20th for EOC assessments, and December 18th for the ELA Reading Retake.
If you or your student would like to review the computer-based practice test at home, the practice tests and answer keys are available at http://www.FSAssessments.org/students-and-families/practice-tests/.
The ELA Reading Retake will be administered over three days, with the writing portion given in one session on one day, and the reading portion given in two sessions over two days. The Algebra 1/Geometry EOC(s)] will be administered as two sessions in two sessions over two days, and the Biology 1 and U.S. History assessment will be administered as one session is one day.
Covid 19: The safety of our students is important to us in light of Covid 19. In order to keep them protected, students will be required to wear masks during testing. Also, ample space between students will be provided, and workstations will be disinfected between testing sessions.
MySchool Online students: State tests must be given on the school campus using a secure browse and administered by certified test administrators. MySchool Online students will receive invitations with dates when they may come to PHS for testing. Students will need to have their own means of transportation.
Please review the following policies with your student before testing:
§ Electronic Devices—Students are not permitted to have any electronic devices, including, but not limited to, cell phones, smartphones, and smartwatches, at any time during testing or during breaks (e.g., restroom), even if the devices are turned off or students do not use them. If your student is found with an electronic device, his or her test will be invalidated.
§ Calculator Policy—For Algebra 1 and Geometry EOC assessments, approved calculators may be used during Session 2 only. If students have handheld calculators during Session 1, their tests will be invalidated. For Biology 1 EOC, a handheld four-function calculator may be used only if the school provides all students with a handheld four-function calculator. Online calculators are available in all session that require or allow them.
§ Testing Rules Acknowledgment—All tests include a Testing Rules Acknowledgment that reads: “I understand the testing rules that were just read to me. If I do not follow these rules, my test score may be invalidated.” Prior to testing, test administrators read the rules to students, and students acknowledge that they understand the testing rules by clicking the box in the secure browser indicating they understand the testing rules.
§ Discussing Test Content after Testing—The last portion of the testing rules read to students before they sign below the Testing Rules Acknowledgment states that because the content of all statewide assessments is secure, students may not discuss or reveal details about the test content (including test items, passages, and prompts) after the test. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, or posting to social media sites. Please make sure your student understands this policy prior to testing and remind them that “discussing” test content includes any kind of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, posting to social media, or sharing online. While students may not share information about secure test content after testing, this policy is not intended to prevent students from discussing their testing experiences with their parents/families.
§ Working Independently—Students are responsible for doing their own work during the test and for protecting their answers from being seen by others. If students are caught cheating during testing, their tests will be invalidated. In addition, the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) employs Caveon Test Security to analyze student test results to detect unusually similar answer patterns. Student tests within a school that are found to have extremely similar answer patterns will be invalidated.
- Leaving Campus—If your student leaves campus before completing a test session (e.g., for lunch, an appointment, illness), he or she will not be allowed to return to that test session. If your student does not feel well on the day of testing, it may be best for him or her to wait and be tested on a make-up day. Please remember not to schedule appointments on testing days.
§ Testing Accommodations—If your student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), a Section 504 Plan, or is an English Language Learner (ELL) or a recently exited ELL, please contact the school to discuss the testing accommodations that will be provided for your student.
If you have any questions related to this test administration, you may contact Lorraine Boise, Assessment Coordinator at lboise@pasco.k12.fl.us.
For more information about the Florida Statewide Assessments program, please visit the portal at www.FSAssessments.org.
Thank you for supporting your student and encouraging him or her to do his or her best during this test administration.
Sincerely,
Kari Kadlub
Principal

Hello Everyone! :)
I’m excited to announce that I will be leading a trip to Alaska this summer in June 2021. This trip is going to be so much fun! I have several exciting days planned for the trip such as visiting Denali national park to see mount Denali, hiking across the tundra, meeting a local musher and sled dogs, hiking to the most accessible glacier in Alaska, and we even get to go whale watching! The short video below will show just how much fun we’ll be having in Alaska so please watch the video and look through the information provided below. We will be having a virtual meeting on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6 pm about this incredible opportunity and to answer all your questions regarding this trip. I can’t wait to see you and your family!

Feeding Tampa Bay
My name is Kate, and I'm from Feeding Tampa Bay.
Feeding Tampa Bay, part of the national Feeding America network, focuses on providing food to the hundreds of thousands of food insecure families in the 10-county area of West Central Florida. I wanted to share with you a volunteer opportunity for students looking to complete volunteer service hours for future scholarships. I noticed that you are the main contact for the PTSA and thought that your members may be interested in this service opportunity.
Every Thursday afternoon from 3-6:30pm is our weekly Pasco Mega Pantry, and we are in great need of volunteers! This event takes place right across from PHS at Burks Memorial Park.
It would be amazing if you were able to share this information with your students looking for volunteer opportunities! I have attached a graphic below with information on the pantry.
Sign up happens here on our website or if you'd like to sign up a group, send me an email and I'll get you registered!
If you have any questions at all or are interested in partnering on future events please don't hesitate to reach me at kscaglione@feedingamericatampabay.org.
I hope to hear from you soon!
