6 New LEGO WeDo Sets
The LEGO WeDo sets arrived last week. The fundraiser on Donorschoose.org gave us 5 sets and Avery's family bought a 6th. Everyone was very excited to see them arrive. The team made up of Gio, Avery, Cole and Jack was the first robotics club team to start working with them. They were quickly followed by three other teams. In addition, I have used them as a STEM project in science. The kids took right to them and quickly began building and programming some projects. I had asked everyone that had their own laptop to download the free software. They use low energy bluetooth so each one only requires two AA batteries (Mindstorms need 8). I have been impressed with all they have done. These sets and their basic programming will help prepare everyone for the LEGO Mindstorms sets.
LEGO WeDo's in Science
We have completed the units on matter. So this week we used the LEGO WeDo sets in class. Everyone in both classes got a chance to explore the sets and do some basic projects. We will be studying energy the next 9 weeks. There are three lessons in which we will be using the LEGO WeDo sets. They will really get everyone engaged.
Professor Hamilton and His Microbots
Professor Hamilton shared his tiny microbots with the APS Robotics Club last Friday. He was nice enough to give everyone a chance to work with them. Everyone enjoyed seeing them and programming with them.
John, Ayden, Chay & Robert on LEGO Mindstorms
John, Ayden, Chay and Robert have completed the movement module for the LEGO Mindstorms. Now that they know how to program the robots to move, they are learning how to use sensors in their programming. They have been working very hard and I have been impressed.
