STAAR Simulation Monday and Wednesday

Students will be taking the Practice STAAR tests on January 30 (Reading), and February 1 (Math). This practice gives our students some experience with the rigor of the 5th grade STAAR. In addition, the teachers use this information to differentiate instruction in order to better meet the needs of our students. Please do not schedule appointments for your child on these dates. Please make sure your child has a good breakfast and brings a snack on those days. Thank you for your cooperation.

Valentine's Party

Valentines Boxes – Our Valentine’s Day party will be on Friday, February 10th at 1:45. A link will be sent out next week to preregister. To keep things organized, we ask that students bring in a shoe box, brown bag, or a grocery sack (double bagged in case suckers make holes!) for collecting their Valentine goodies.

Optional Valentine’s Day activity- We LOVE this 5th grade activity because we have some really creative kids!! Students can join the optional Valentine’s Box class competition and let those creative juices flow. In this competition, students will bring in a “box” that competes in one or more of the following categories:

  • Best Use of Household Products
  • Best Use of Valentine’s Day Theme
  • Most Creative
  • Best Overall

Students in the class will vote on their favorite box using a ballot. There will be prizes for one winner of each category. Students may begin bringing boxes in on Wednesday, February 8 (NOT BEFORE) or keep their box a secret until the 10th! The ideas are endless. May the best boxes win!

Field Trip to the Symphony

5th grade will be attending the Plano Symphony on February 15th. Please fill out the yellow permission slip and pay on mypaymentsplus.com NO LATER THAN February 8th. If your child has lost their form, they will need to get a new one from Mrs. Dahl.

Counselor Corner

Counselor Corner,

January is the perfect time to talk about goal setting both academic and personal. Our guidance lessons will give students a chance to reflect on growth they have already experienced this school year and make plans for positive changes.

Small group academic counseling for 5th graders started in December and will continue this month. We go over results of the Cognitive Abilities test and make some short term and long term academic goals. We talk about possible courses choices for middle school. The Clark middle school counselor will be here in February to explain middle school course choices to the students.
