Principal's Message
What a great start to the school year! I would like to thank our teachers, staff members, students, and parents for a productive start to the 22/23 school year. Our students are already demonstrating growth both academically and social-emotionally. The month of October will have a number of different activities for both students and families to participate in. Below is a list of events for the month of October.
- October 10 - No School in observance of Columbus Day

- October 12 - Picture Day (Makeups are scheduled for November 9th)
- October 19 - UNITY Day! Wear Orange to Stand Up Against Bullying
- October 20 - Trunk or Treat Night from 6 - 7 PM at St. Thomas Elementary

The PA Universal School Breakfast Program begins October 1, 2022, and runs through the end of the 2022-2023 School Year. The Tuscarora School District will be able to serve students a school breakfast at no charge. This change is only applicable to the School Breakfast Program in the 2022-2023 School Year and does not affect a student’s eligibility status for lunch (free, reduced, and paid, respectively).
Please do your best to have your student in school every day and on time. Our student's success will be dependent on their daily attendance and positive participation during the school day. Our attendance goal this school year is 97%. Students who earn 100% attendance at the end of each month will be recognized and rewarded. ALL students who meet the attendance goal of 97% at the middle and end of the school year will receive a St. Thomas winter hat and t-shirt, respectively. Students who achieve 100% attendance at the middle and end of the school year will receive a St. Thomas water bottle and backpack, respectively. Lastly, students who meet or exceed the attendance goal of 97% will have their names put into a drawing at the middle and end of the school year for prizes including a Nintendo Switch, Chromebook, scooter, wireless speaker, wireless earbuds, art kit, science kit, and more!!!
Please stay involved in your son or daughter's schooling. Their overall success will be dependent upon the support they receive from the school and at home. Have your child tell you about their school day, monitor their homework, read with them each night for 15-20 minutes, and encourage them daily to do their best! We look forward to seeing the continued growth of our students this school year and beyond.
All the best. Tiger Pride!

Literacy Corner: The Star Reader Program
The St. Thomas Literacy Committee is excited to announce the Star Reader program for this school year. Every week the classroom teacher chooses a student whom has demonstrated strong reading skills such as building their reading stamina, improving their reading fluency or sharing their love of reading with a partner or the entire class. The Star Reader earns a bookmark to keep and a token to spend at the book vending machine. Every Friday afternoon the Star Readers are given the opportunity to come and choose a book from the vending machine that they get to take home and enjoy. Check out the pictures honoring our Star Readers.

Breakfast and Lunch Prices for the 2022/23 School Year
The USDA will not be extending the free/reduced breakfast and lunch meal program school-wide for the 2022-23 school year.
Much like prior to March of 2020, households are required to submit a NEW application yearly to be considered for free/reduced meals for the upcoming school year. If you choose not to complete or qualify for free/reduced meals, you will be expected to pay for breakfast and lunch if your child participates. Please see the updated 22-23 breakfast and lunch prices below. More information regarding the breakfast and lunch program is available in the student handbook.
We highly encourage all families to fill out the free and reduced meal application at the start of this year. The applications will be placed in your child's student folder.
