A Message To Families From Mr. Peck
Riverview Families,
Over the next few weeks, learners in grades 2-5 will complete their winter NWEA MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments. The same students took this assessment in the fall and will do so again in the spring. This consistent monitoring of progress in reading and math throughout the year allows us to measure the growth our students are showing in those areas and provides our teachers with important information they can use to enhance their own instruction. We are able to see where rapid growth is occurring, what strategies are producing the best results, and potentially where we may need to change course. Of course we know that assessments like these are just snapshots in time and don't always tell us the whole story. We also have to trust our eyes and ears which tell us every day that our students are working hard, growing their skills, and learning new things constantly. All we ask is that students try their best and show us what they know. We are so proud of every one of them!
Best wishes for a great week!
Shawn Peck
Principal

No School on Monday, Jan. 15 For MLK Jr. Day of Service
From doi.gov - Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service (MLK Day) is the only federal holiday that is also designated by Congress as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.” Participation in service activities has grown each year as more Americans are encouraged to provide meaningful change in their communities. Whether service meets a tangible need, such as fixing up a school or senior center, builds a sense of community or mutual responsibility. In a pandemic environment, service can take on the form of sending a meal through a meal delivery service, serving as a virtual mentor, or donating money to a charitable cause to help those who lack basic essential items.
No matter the choice, service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community. It breaks down barriers by bringing people from different backgrounds together and it benefits those who choose to serve. Coretta Scott King said, “The greatest birthday gift my husband could receive is if people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds celebrated the holiday by performing individual acts of kindness through service to others.”
Riverview Night at El Charro - Thursday, Jan. 18
Eat a delicious meal and support the RVES PTP! El Charro of Farmington will donate 20% of all sales on Thursday, January 18 between 4:00-9:00 PM back to our school. These funds go right back into our school to support our students and teachers. El Charro has always been a great supporter of our school and we appreciate it very much!
Friendly Reminder: No Food/Treat Sharing - Even on Special Days
With Valentines Day coming soon we want to share a reminder of the ISD 192 health and wellness procedure when it comes to food. We strive to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for every person here and due to the high number of allergies and food-related illnesses present in our schools we have restricted the sharing of food, treats, snacks, etc. This means that students should not bring in any food item to share with others, even on special days like birthdays or holidays. We kindly request that if your child would like to bring valentines to share with others in their class, that they stick to non-edible items. We appreciate your help in keeping everyone safe at school.
Visiting Riverview Soon? Check The Lost and Found For Missing Items
Our lost and found has grown significantly over the winter months. If you suspect that your child may have items in the lost and found, we invite you to come to RVES and check it out. Just stop by the main office first to check in.
Also - please double check their your child's name is written somewhere on their coat, hat, gloves, snowpants, water bottles, and other commonly misplaced items. It helps to get misplaced things back into the hands of the owner easily.

Parents/Caregivers Provide Us WIth Important Feedback on Our Approach/Direction
For the past several weeks, we have shared data from the learner survey that was completed in November by our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. There were also surveys provided to the parents/guardians we serve and while the response rate was not great (we only had 83 responses), we were still given useful information we can use to move our school forward. Over the next few weeks, we'll share some of the data from our parent/caregiver survey that was completed this past November.
