Youth Mental Health First Aid
Prairie Lakes AEA offers YMHFA
Prairie Lakes AEA will offer Youth Mental Health First Aid training on various dates in multiple locations throughout the 2019-2020 school year. This six-hour training course is designed to teach adults how to help an adolescent who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people.
The training will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., with a 1 hour lunch on your own. There is no charge to participate. Class is limited to 30 participants.
This training also meets the Iowa legislation requirement of one hour of suicide prevention training for school districts.
How Youth Mental Health First Aid Can Help
- Informs adults about common mental health concerns among youth
- Reduces stigma
- Teaches adults how to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health problems in youth
- Teaches a 5 step action plan to help youth who may be facing a mental health problem or crisis
