An AVID Mindset
AVID FACTS
The AVID Parent
AVID parents encourage their students to achieve academically, participate in school activities, and learn AVID methodologies to assist in student success.
The AVID Curriculum
The AVID curriculum is based on rigorous standards and was developed by middle and senior high school teachers in collaboration with college professors. It is driven by the WICOR method, which stands for writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. AVID strategies are being used school wide at Early College High School to prepare students for the rigor of college classes.
The AVID Student
The AVID student wants to learn and grow so they find success after high school. Students are dedicated to their work in school and know that it takes determination and hard work. They recognize that the work they put in now will determine the path to their future. This mindset is what sets AVID students apart from many other students.
What it is...
•Fosters deep understanding through hands-on and minds-on learning for all students
•Provides students the opportunity to explore, ask questions and find solutions to real world issues
•Improves student engagement
•Focuses on all students’ learning styles
•Leverages critical thinking skills
•Deepens understanding of content
E2L - Best Practice Highlight
Critical Analysis
Intentional problem analysis of teacher instruction and student learning outcomes allows educators to focus their lesson design for maximum student growth while fostering critical thinking. This analytical practice provides teachers and students a way to analyze how they learn, evaluate their learning needs, designate strategies to meet the learning needs and implementation of those strategies. Critical Analysis allows teachers to improve their instructional practice while students improve the depth of learning through classroom experiences.
CLASS SPOTLIGHT
Ms. Travis' AVID Class
In AVID 1 we have been working on completing personal Mandala’s and an Autobiography. This project allowed students to create a Mandala that represented them and the things that are important to them. The autobiographies and mandalas allowed students to share things that are significant to them with their peers and also allow them to reflect. Below are a couple students with their Mandalas.

A Message from our ITS
Dear Parents,
The school year will be at a close very soon and we need to prepare for technology collection. All laptops will be collected in May, and any student with broken devices or lost chargers will be responsible for repairs and replacements. Please speak with your student concerning their device so there are no surprises at the end of the year.
There are quite a few students missing chargers. Please see the fee schedule for information.
Thank you,
Natosha Daniels, M.Ed.
