BUTTE COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM TALKS SPORTS MEDICINE
Robby Snelling, head football coach at Butte College, and some of his players came to talk to our Medical Detectives class about Sports Medicine. Topics discussed included in-season training (Warm ups, Practice, Film Study and Lifting) and Recovery (Nutrition, Hydration, Sleep and Treatment). Students also got the opportunity to do warm-up activities with the players and ask questions. It's not too late to sign up for this great class for the 2018-2019 school year!
SEXUAL HEALTH & HIV/AIDS PREVENTION UNIT
The comprehensive sexual health and HIV/AIDS prevention unit will be delivered in all 7th grade science classes in May. Parents and guardians are invited to attend the information night on Wednesday May 2nd at 6pm at Chico Jr High in room 105 to review the curriculum.
On Friday, May 4th a consultant from the approved Positively Speaking program will present medically accurate information on HIV/AIDS prevention. Parents and guardians have the right to excuse their student from the unit by submitting a written request to the principal or science teacher. The goal of the health education program is to encourage students to make responsible decisions in the future.
BIDWELL CHEERLEADERS
LAST WEB EVENT FOR SIXTH GRADERS!
On March 27th, Bidwell held our fourth WEB program “meet-up” of the school year. This event brought together all 6th grade students and their respective 8th grade WEB leaders during Primetime. The WEB groups worked through fun activities, social lessons, and focused on setting goals for a strong finish of the school year. We were fortunate enough to have great weather for this event that included almost 400 students! The Bidwell WEB program is looking forward to continued growth and success going forward next year.

FUTURE PIONEERS HAVE FUN AT 5TH GRADE VISITATION DAY!
Over three hundred 5th graders from our feeder schools visited Bidwell Monday in order to give them a taste of what they can expect as middle schoolers next year. The students started off with an assembly and some games before rotating through several stations throughout the day. Students did a STEAM challenge, checked out elective choices, participated in team building activities, and learned about how to choose their classes for next year. The day concluded with a REAL middle school lunch served in the gym.
NEW LIFE TO OLD PHONES
Do you have an old smartphone laying around that you no longer need? Bidwell’s history department could put it to great use! We are excited to have the opportunity to use Google Cardboard devices in the classroom, which will allow students to take virtual reality fieldtrips and explore the places we learn about. These devices require a smartphone connected to Wi-Fi, and don’t worry! Your information can be cleared off of your phone!
If you have a phone or two that you could donate, bring them to the office or talk to Mrs. Molchen at cmolchen@chicousd.org. Thank you for making history come to life for our students!
GOLD NUGGET PRIZES
We have quite a few UNCLAIMED Gold Nugget raffle Gift Cards! The following students can come claim their $5 Gift card in Room 406A during their lunch break: Braydin Savangsy, Allison Vang, Camille Rowe, Wyatt Collins, Elise Kerr, Jasmine Sager, Tatiana Sepulveda, Andy Yang and Daniel Etter.
2019 WASHINGTON D.C. TRIP

We will also begin taking sign ups at this time. This is not a school- or district-sponsored event. This trip fills up fast! For more information see Mr. Battaglia or Mr. Wardlow.
