PRINCIPAL'S LETTER
In this final edition of the 2017-18 Pioneer Post, I would like to bid a warm farewell to our promoting 8th graders. It’s been a pleasure getting to know you and your families this school year. In many ways, your junior high experience has been a unique one. Coming up to Bidwell as 7th grader’s the same year that 6th graders made the move to junior high, it would have been easy for this group to fall into the stereotypical “forgotten middle child” role. I’m your third principal in two years. It would have been easy for you to dismiss me as “the next guy.” But you didn’t accept a forgotten role and you didn’t dismiss me. As a group, you are simply too talented, too optimistic, and too resilient to settle for those roles.
Parents, I was honored by the trust you gave me and the confidence you had in me from the start. I knew we had our work cut out for us to salvage a quality junior high experience for your kids based on their 7th grade experience. Working together, along with our always-dedicated Bidwell staff, I think we finished on a strong note, sending our kids into high school with fond junior high memories. Thank you!
I wish I could have worked with you all last year. I feel like we’re just getting to know each other and it’s time for you to move on. As I said in our High School Success discussions, you all have what it takes to make the necessary adjustments to thrive in high school. But remember it will take adjustments. Take your work ethic up a notch, insist on making that extra effort to communicate with your teachers, muster to courage to look people in the eye and give them a confident greeting. Keep striving. Excellence is not a stationary target, but one that moves relative to your current progress. Keep striving. Things that coast tend to go downhill.
I look forward to following your successes at high school and, for some of you, working with your younger siblings as they come through Bidwell.
Loving you, Bidwell!

PROMOTION CEREMONY FAQS
Our Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held Firday, June 8th at 8:30 on the blacktop behind Bidwell. The following is a list of tips that we hope will help you ensure that your students take care of things that need to be done to ensure a happy last week of school.
- If your student has any outstanding debts at school they need to be paid or their certificates will be withheld until they are paid. Debts include textbooks, library books, any other charges for lost or damaged school property and outstanding debts to other schools. A list of those who still have debts will be read at promotion practice on Thursday, June 7th. Students on this list must resolve their debt to receive their certificates on Friday.
- Appropriate dress is very important for the promotion ceremony. Formal dress is not allowed. Gentlemen are asked to wear nice pants and a collared shirt. It is certainly OK to wear a tie. Ladies dress in sundresses or something that is of a similar level of formality. High-heeled shoes are not allowed because of safety on the ramp.
- Students need to report for line-up for the ceremony, Friday, June 8th by 8:00 a.m. The processional will start at 8:30 a.m.
- Students must not carry anything in their hands during the ceremony.
- Parents may not enter the student seating area until after the ceremony.
- Students must not leave their seat until the ceremony is over.
- Promotion takes place on the basketball courts. Chairs for the students will be provided but please bring lawn chairs for your family and guests.
- If possible, please do not bring balloons to the ceremony because they obstruct the views of the audience. If you do bring balloons, please take them to Room 408 and you can pick them up after the ceremony.
BIDWELL MUSIC SPRING CONCERT
Our music department did an amazing job at the BJHS Spring Concert. Led by director Tanner Johns, the Beginning, Concert, and Jazz Bands as well as the Chorus performed a selection of songs for the audience including Star Wars, Feelin' Good, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, and Hallelujah. Check out the video below of the chorus singing Imagine. We definitely have some talented Pioneers!
