Grade Z Coming Soon
LHS will be piloting a new mark in our gradebooks during the fourth quarter. The grade mark “Z” will appear on the Home Access Center (HAC) for assignments and assessments. Teachers shall use Z grades as necessary for placeholders for missing assignments or assessments. The Z grades will calculate into a student’s grade as a zero immediately and until the student has earned a grade for the assignment or assessment. This will provide students and parents with an accurate reflection of their overall grade throughout the marking period.
College and Career Center
- There are scholarships available right now for all grade levels, if you would like access to these please email Mrs. Hazlegrove at tlhazlegrove@smcps.org
- Seniors, please let Mrs. Hazlegrove know when you have made your post high school decision. Please also inform her of any scholarships you have been offered even if they are from schools you are attending.

Literacy Coach Corner -Alternatives to the Novel
If you wish your teen read more but can’t get them interested in reading traditional novels, there are some interesting new genres in young adult fiction that could get them engaged:
Graphic Novels: Generally, this is a comic book in novel format. For visual students or those who love art, this can be a great segue into reading. Below are some links to sites with recommended titles. As always, you should preview the content as some titles do contain mature themes or images.
Verse Novels: These tell a story entirely in poetry. Verse novels often pack a lot of emotion and drama told in a different way. The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo is one of the most popular titles recently, but below are links to lists of other books written in verse. Again, you should preview the content to find appropriate titles for your student:
From the Key Club
From the Nurse's Office
