Caribou Trails Update

Wow! What a week!
Hello Crawford families,
Wow! This was a crazy start to the New Year.
We were so happy that our parking lots and drop off lanes were clear for students to return to school on the 4th of January. The contractor did an excellent job of clearing snow and ice so that we could safely enter and exit the parking lots. This looked a bit dicey last Sunday afternoon, but they did a great job making it happen on Sunday night.
On Wednesday we were able to host our Ben Eielson Junior/Senior High students as they had to evacuate their buildings. The staff and students did an excellent job and we appreciate the patience of all as we navigated reunification at 40 below.
Thursday's gate difficulties created a challenge at school and we are SOOO grateful to the limited staff that were present to help navigate that situation and supervise students. Mrs. Henry, our Librarian, was assisted by Mrs. Fleming, from Nutrition Services, Mrs. Jones, Fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Ellis, Third grade teacher, Mrs. St. Aubyn, substitute teacher. They were able to supervise the students in common areas until teachers and other staff were able to arrive. A great big thank you to them all!
As a result of this less than optimal start to the new semester, Heather Campbell, a Crawford parent, arranged for a catered breakfast for all three of the base schools. She delivered them to a very grateful staff before school. I cannot tell you how touched the staff was by the gesture and the kindness this act conveyed. We thank the Eielson Families for their thoughtfulness and support of our school communities. We appreciate you right back!
Below you will find information about the School Efficiency Task Force Survey and the upcoming School Board Agenda for the work session on Monday. Please take a few moments to click on the links and review the information in the agenda as it may be very impactful to our school and base community.
Also below we have the winners from the Winter Break Bingo game! Scroll down to see the names and thanks to everyone (all 41) who played!
Have a wonderful Sunday evening and a great week!

Breakfast is Served! Mrs. Campbell organized and delivered breakfast to the Crawford staff on Friday morning. Her sons, Isaiah and Jackson helped her bring the items to the Staff Lounge. Thank you for your thoughtfulness! | Mrs. Masheff with the Thank You card The breakfast and the card were so appreciated! There was not a dry eye in the house as staff received the breakfast and the kind words. | Thank you card This is the card that accompanied the breakfast. We know that our families endure many hardships and frustrations as well, and that you all could take the time to recognize the Crawford staff is truly humbling. Thank you all for your support. |

School Efficiency Task Force Information
Communication was recently sent out by the school district regarding the potential closing of Anderson Elementary, the shifting of Anderson students/staff to the Crawford building (K-5), and the 6th grade students shifting to BEJH/BEHS. The Administrative Memo in the School Board Agenda puts this plan forward as the preferred course of action.
Any public comments can be made to schoolboard@k12northstar.org
The task force recommendations are linked here. The work session on January 10 is open to the public and can be attended in-person or by watching online through zoom (link in agenda) or the district’s Facebook page. Work sessions are informational meetings, there is no public testimony and the Board will not vote on any agenda items at this time.
Here is the current timeline of events, including opportunities for feedback:
- January 7, 2022 - Survey results are released in the School Board Agenda for January 10
