💻 Tech Tip of the Month! 💻
Help Kids Post, Comment and Upload Responsibly!
This month's tech tip comes from Common Sense Education and is titled, Help Kids Post, Comment, and Upload Responsibly. We have spoken about what a digital footprint is, during classes in the library and in tech ed. This is such an important topic that should also be discussed at home, and reinforced often. The importance of having a positive digital footprint is crucial for our children who are growing up in a digital world. Please see the attached link to the article about helping to ensure that your child has a positive digital footprint.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
On January 15, we celebrated the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In the library, 6th grade classes learned to work in teams, learning important facts about Martin Luther King, Jr. by solving an escape room puzzle. Students worked cooperatively to solve puzzles using Morse Code, pigpen ciphers, cryptograms and polybius ciphers, eventually using the answers to get a code to "escape."

SCPD Presentations
On January 23, Officer Allison, from the Suffolk County Police Department, visited with our students to speak to them about many important topics. Sixth and seventh graders heard a presentation about their digital footprints and social media/cyberbullying. Eighth graders heard about the dangers of vaping and drug use. Both assemblies were extremely informative. Thank you, Officer Allison, for speaking to our students!

World Languages Presentations
Sixth grade students were treated to a presentation by all World Language teachers on January 16th and January 25. French, German, Italian, and Spanish teachers gave an overview of each language and students were able to participate in games to practice their numbers in each of the languages. Teachers encouraged students to choose a language they are interested in when they make their choices for seventh grade.

Smiles for Myles
The students, faculty and staff at GHMS send their thoughts and prayers for Myles Cotton and wish him a speedy recovery. On Tuesday, January 9, Great Hollow and HS East showed solidarity and spirit for Myles by wearing red. The NJHS are selling "Smiles for Myles" tshirts and sweatshirts and the proceeds will go directly to the family. Here is a video montage from our spirit day on January 9th.
