DISCOVERY
Dear ELC Families,
Learning in our Montessori classrooms in the ELC is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline and a love of learning.
The children work during an uninterrupted two-hour work block. During this time, a teacher might give a lesson to a child or to a small group of children, another child might give a lesson to a peer, or the children are free to explore the materials. For a young child, the lesson could only be a few moments long. An older child might receive a more complex lesson requiring attention to multiple steps or an advanced concept. These lessons help the children develop work habits, organizational skills, and order but they never teach the children the answers.
Teaching children the answers takes away their chance to make discoveries on their own. A preschooler may wonder, "Why did my tower of cubes fall down?" or "What happens if I paint with yellow and red?"
Our Montessori environment offers children the tools to discover the answers to their own questions. The teachers are the guides and the learning materials are the tools for discovery, growth and development. The children quickly learn to examine a problem carefully, seek possiblities and discover a solution. We see the children's confidence develop right before our eyes. We see them delight in solving their own problems and taking leadership roles in guiding others as they discover their abilities and skills.
Thank you for sharing your children with us,
Gail

HALLOWEEN IN THE ELC
Please send your child to school in his/her costume* on Friday Oct. 30 and send a change of clothes.
We will celebrate with a special story, fun activities and a scavenger hunt from 9:00-10:30 - we will then change out of our costumes.
The children will get some treats and goodies but we will not have a parade or trick or treat this year - and in keeping with school policy, parents are not permitted to come on campus.
Please let your child's teacher know if you want to send in a special snack or treats for Halloween.
We promise to take and share lots of pictures!
*Please let us know if you do not celebrate Halloween or if you do not want your child to dress up.

New ELC Facebook Group!
In order to enhance digital security for our students and their families, we have transitioned our school Facebook page to a private group, which affords us better screening and monitoring measures. Our goal is to share information, update the community on events and programs, and showcase the achievements of students, teachers, parents and other community members in a more private and secure way.
Since this group will be private, an administrator must approve your request to join. If you would like to join the group, click the link below. Also, if you have not done so already, please like and follow the main FSDB Facebook pag.
