The Principal's Pen
September 2, 2022
What a wonderful beginning!
A big thank you to Mother Nature for providing us with three glorious weather days that helped support us in welcoming back our students!
If you have not had the time to review all of our Back to School Information please review it this weekend at https://jcs.greenwichschools.org/
Breakfast Program
We will be opening the cafeteria for students in grades K-5 who would like to eat breakfast at school. Students who are signed up may come at 7:30. Children being dropped off for breakfast should be dropped off at 7:30 in order to leave enough time to eat their breakfast prior to going to their classroom at 8:00. Families are required to sign up in advance for this program.
Welcome Calls
This year Julian Curtiss will continue to make parents partners in their child’s education. Our first step will include teachers making a 15 minute phone call or arranging a Google Meet with each of their student’s families. Our teachers want you to know who they are, and they want to know their students’ family too. Your knowledge of your child will help their teacher know the student faster, and can be the beginning of 2-way sharing to support your child throughout the year. It may take a month for all calls to be completed, but be on the watch for this call and be ready to share about the student you will both be supporting this school year!
FROM NURSE THERESA
Dear JC Families,
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! I am so excited to spend another year with all of you and your children. I want to take this opportunity to review a few things and provide the newest information regarding the district’s illness protocols.
Illness and COVID:
The district has released its latest COVID and illness guidelines which you can find on the GPS website or by clicking on this link: https://resources.finalsite.net/images/v1661350941/greenwich/z2eoxmsii2jhfuysjv4b/Guidelines_for_Childhood_Illness_and_COVID.pdf I am happy to answer any questions you may have regarding these protocols.
Permission to treat:
This form allows us to treat your child in the event of an emergency. You will find it in your Friday Folder today. If you haven’t already, please fill this form out, sign it, and return it to school on Tuesday. https://resources.finalsite.net/images/v1658413492/greenwich/aj8qcxr0z4rhqrjoeisd/PermissionforTreatment2022-23.pdf
Health forms:
Please send in any outstanding health forms ASAP. https://portal.ct.gov/-/media/SDE/School-Nursing/Forms/HAR3.pdf
Medications:
If your child requires medications that need to be given here at school please let me know so I can provide you the correct forms to give your health care provider so we can do so. We are unable to give any medications or use any over the counter medications, topical creams or ointments, or eye drops without an order from your doctor.
Visiting the Health Office:
Please stop at the front office before coming to the Health Office. In an effort to keep everyone safe and healthy, it’s best to make sure there are no sick children in the health office before we allow healthy parents in!
We are so happy to have all of you as part of our JC community. Please do not ever hesitate to call or email with any questions or concerns. I am always happy to help.
Best Wishes,
Theresa McIntosh, RN

KINDERGARTEN PARENTS MARK YOUR CALENDAR
Please join us for our annual Kindergarten Ringing In Ceremony on Friday, September 16th at 9:00 am on the side field. The entire JC student community will join us to welcome our new learners, so please mark your calendars. The ceremony will be brief - no longer than 30 minutes.
At the end of the ceremony, there will be a brief time for parents to take photos of the children. They will then accompany their teachers back to the classroom.
New Teacher
My name is Katherine Murphy, and I am the long-term substitute for Giulia Sanford. I specialize in teaching elementary strings, having graduated from SUNY Potsdam with a Bachelor of Music in Education in 2007. My primary instrument is violin, but am proficient on all string instruments. I am eager to show third, fourth and fifth grade orchestra students how to be confident string players during group lessons and ensemble rehearsals! When I am not busy as a teacher, I like to pursue other interests, such as learning foreign languages, learning to sew, and taking adult ballet classes.
