April Showers bring May Flowers...and STAAR?
STAAR is fast approaching with the warm weather! 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are hard at work in Blitz mode, reviewing, working in small groups with teachers, specialists, and interventionists to get where they need to be. How can we all support our STAAR grade levels in this stressful time? If you are a mentor, visit with your mentor students. Plan what you will do for STAAR buddy classes for the big round of STAAR (May 9 and May 10). If you are a STAAR teacher, keep your expectations AND your patience on high, and remember the stress you might be feeling about testing coming is ten-fold for many of your kids.
If you have ideas for motivational activities that you would love to try out, please let me know! Some teachers are talking about a STAAR pep rally, and are fleshing out ideas for that, so if you are interested in helping out with something like that, definitely let me know as soon as possible.
This Week...
- Teacher of the Year Ceremony on Thursday (Taylor HS, be there at 6:30 to support our very own Debora Fisher!)
- Earth Day Bake Sale (and Earth Day!!) on Friday (bring your donations of cookies, donuts, cupcakes, and other sugar-loaded goodies!)
- Flea Market on Saturday (reserve your spot to sell your stuff, only $20!)
Retention Conferences...have you had them??
If you have students who may be retained for next school year, and you have not had that conversation with their parents, PLEASE call and set up conferences THIS WEEK. No one likes to be surprised with this kind of news...Thank you!!!
