Sunnyside Sentinel

September 18th- September 25th

Hello Sunnyside Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather as we head into Fall. We have a busy week.

The book fair will take place this week and the first PTO meeting of the school year! We will end the week with the PTO Back to School Picnic.

Sunnyside Tigers have been off and running! Classes are busy working and learning! We started our virtual announcements last week. Those announcements can be found on the school's website if you would like to take a peak! Click on the Tiger in my virtual office.

Continuing with a proud Sunnyside School tradition, we will be selecting STORM (Student Team of Role Models) students in early October. Information on applying to STORM will be sent out this week to our third and fourth graders. Last years third grade STORM students will have a permission slip sent home for parent signature if they wish to continue in this program. We will also be opening a few more fourth grade slots in order to give others an opportunity to apply this year.

Have a great week!

Ms. Lussier

Sunnyside School Principal

This year Sunnyside School is joining the district in using Roman's Photography to take our school photographs! We are very excited to partner with them. A flyer will be distributed soon. Pictures are for sale using a proof program. You will get to see to select your child's photo before ordering!

Next year, Sunnyside School's picture day will return to September. In order to use Roman's we needed to hold picture day in October for this year only!

The Character Word of the month is TEAMWORK

The character word of the month is TEAMWORK. Teamwork is working together (cooperating) with others to get to an end goal. You can find examples of teamwork in games, television shows, and sports, among other aspects of life. Some great teamwork activities you can do include partner drawing, squats, and puzzle solving. The beginning of the school year is a great time to focus on this trait while students are learning to work together as a class!

Updated Breakfast and Lunch Information

Updated breakfast/lunch information-

Lunch and breakfast are available each day for all students at NO COST until the end of October.

Parents/Guardians should fill out the application attached below for Free/Reduced lunch, even though you think you may not qualify. When the funds run out and if you have not already filled out a form, you will be expected to pay full price for each breakfast and lunch your child receives.

A menu will be sent home electronically at the beginning of each month with food choices (subject to availability). Students may also bring lunch from home. We do not have room in the cafeteria for visitors to eat lunch with students.

We are a nut free school-any foods containing nut products may not be brought in. Only food served by the cafeteria or lunch boxes from home will be permitted. Please check all ingredients and treats, especially if you are sending your child in with a boxed lunch such as "Lunchable". Many times the candy in those items contain nuts.

We do not have a microwave for students to heat lunches and staff will not cut up food for students. Please be sure your child knows how to open their lunches, drinks and lunch boxes. Now is a great time to practice!
