The Main Things
An MSD Family Communication that Cuts out the Clutter!
January 21, 2022
Main Thing 1 - Graduation Rates Released
Despite all the hardships brought upon us in this pandemic, our students continue to work hard to get to graduation. We celebrate our students and the unified efforts by our elementary, middle, and high school staff to ensure students make it to that pivotal moment! The state released graduation rates yesterday, and the Medford School District graduated 82% of the Class of 2021 in four years and 85% in five years. While we certainly have more work to do, we remember the challenging circumstances these students faced, particularly during their last two years in high school. Our high schools have teams diligently identifying students who are currently not on track to graduate and providing them with the support and tools to get back on track. The graduation rate for our schools are as follows:
Main Thing 2 - Omicron Update
We continue to manage the Omicron surge to the best of our ability, while working to provide our students with the best education possible. We’ve made some updates to our MSD Safety Standards to reflect guidance changes. We have also opened a COVID hotline (541-842-3806), in addition to a COVID email address. These resources are for general questions, not for guidance on specific cases. If you have questions about a case concerning your student, please contact your school.
Main Thing 3 - Athletics & Activities Update
We know how important athletics and activities are to our students and families. To continue to offer these activities, the Medford School District is temporarily limiting spectators at events in alignment with other high schools in the South West Conference.
Middle School
Basketball: Each athlete will receive 2 passes for home games and 1 pass for away.
Wrestling: Each athlete will receive 1 pass for home meets and away meets. SOMSAC wrestling meets involve multiple schools and more athletes so additional precautions are put into place at this time.
*Please hold on to passes for home and away games and note that some schools are not allowing spectators and capacity restrictions do vary by district.
High School
Large gym: Each athlete will receive 4 tickets for home contests and 2 for away.
Small gym: Each athlete will receive 2 tickets for home contests and 1 for away.
Pep band, cheer and dance are paused at games to allow for more seating through the end of the month.
Everyone over the age of 5 is required to wear a mask inside. This excludes athletes and officials who are physically exerting themselves. Concession stands will also be paused during this time. We SO appreciate your cooperation as adhering to the guidance will help us continue to allow spectators to play.
We will review these changes at the end of January and will open up to more spectators if Covid cases reduce.
Other Things
City of Medford Community Court Survey
The City of Medford is in the beginning stages of evaluating the possibility for a community court program within the Municipal Court system. Community Court models work to reduce crime and incarceration, and strengthen community trust in the justice system. The process promotes responsibility in participants through a combination of community service opportunities and direct connections to social service providers.
Your response is anonymous and will be used to help design and develop appropriate programming for a potential community court model in Medford. You do not need a Medford address to participate.
