The Tohickon Golden Eagle
June 2017
THE 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR COMES TO A CLOSE
Dear Tohickon Families,
The 2016-2017 School Year will be ending on Tuesday, June 13th, which is a half day for students. We have had a tremendous year, concluding with several significant events over the past month. The past few weeks have included our musical concerts, Relay for Life, our 6th Grade Orientation for students, our Student Variety Show and the Freshman Dance.
Relay for Life raised over $200,000 this year. The event went off without a hitch thanks to Mr. Senavaitis and the staff members involved with organizing the event. There is so much involved in putting this event together and it is important to appreciate all of the volunteers that have worked so hard in planning and implementing all aspects of this special fundraiser.
On May 24th, sixth grade students visited us from Gayman, Pine Run and Groveland Elementary Schools. There were many smiles as students toured the school, meeting teachers, guidance counselors and administrators. One of the key highlights of the day was learning how to open lockers. Mr. Dudley and I are greatly looking forward to seeing our new students on August 24th for Schedule Pick Up Day.
The Variety Show took place on Friday, June 2nd. Tohickon students had an opportunity to show off there talents as they sang, danced and acted over a period of about three hours. A special thanks to Mrs. Zagwoski, Mr. Hall and Mrs. Fry-Daly for working with student council to put together this unique event!
The Freshman Dance was held during the evening of Friday, June 2nd. This is always such a special event for our ninth grade students as they celebrate three fantastic years at Tohickon.
As we look forward to next year, we have a number of exciting things to look forward to including a new middle school schedule. The next newsletter will be sent out at the beginning of August. This will include several important items and dates such as schedule pick up information and key details for the opening days of the 2017-2018 School Year.
In closing, on behalf of the Tohickon Staff and Administration, I would like to thank our parents and all of those in our community that have supported us throughout the year. I also want to thank all of our ninth grade students for three great years at Tohickon. I wish them the best as they move on to CB East and CB West. I hope you and your families have a safe and restful summer. Please take these months to enjoy time with family and friends. I look forward to seeing you in September!
Sincerely,
Kevin Marton, Principal
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR PARENT COUNCIL!!!
During the first week in May the Tohickon Parent Council put together three days of staff appreciation activities. These days were amazing! The first day was a luncheon, the second day was a breakfast and the third day was a special snack day.
The amount of work and effort that went into these three days was greatly appreciated by all of our staff members. A special thanks to Mrs. Bauer and Mrs. Benson, our Tohickon Parent Council Representatives, for Teacher Appreciation and all of the support that they have given throughout the year!
Mr. Neely Receives District Apple Award
Mr. James Neely is the 2016-2017 Apple Nominee for Tohickon Middle School. Mr. Neely, beginning in the Spring of 2016, took an active interest in developing the center patio area at Tohickon Middle School. This was a part of the building that had gone mostly unused for several years. Using his knowledge of horticulture and patio design, Mr. Neely created a functional design which transformed a relatively unused area into a usable learning space.
Mr. Neely searched for landscapers, visited gardening facilities, selected plants, recommended a design for irrigation and designed an exterior water fountain in efforts to make the patio an attractive place for teachers to take their classes. In addition to these ideas, Mr. Neely took time and effort during the summer of 2016 to meet the landscapers to transport stone and soil into the patio area. Ultimately, this required several days and hours of Mr. Neely’s time.
Mr. Neely is a staff member that takes a tremendous amount of pride in Tohickon. His thoughtfulness and effort is greatly appreciated by both the staff and the administration. Throughout this process, it was obvious that he had the students in mind. We look forward to working with Mr. Neely as we continue to add enhancements to this unique patio area.

We seek to promote healthy, safe, and substance-free lifestyles by connecting these students and their families with appropriate school based or community resources. If you have not already done so, please complete the census verification through the PARENT PORTAL as soon as possible.
