Greetings
This is not the vision I had for my monthly principal newsletter to the community! If your email looks anything like mine, you may have been inundated by different ideas and activities during this period of school closure. I am attaching the link to the district newsletter below. it contains helpful links specific to the community of Tewksbury, as well as suggested activities for students in all grade levels. I have also shared a few links to websites and articles I have found valuable so far.
Teachers are meeting virtually this week to plan more outreach and information sharing, so please keep an eye out for communication from North Street. On behalf of all teachers and staff, we are thinking of you and your family, and looking forward to greeting your children through our front doors once more.
Be well,
Karen

Core Values Assembly
Every month, North Street students and staff focus on a different core value, derived from a list that was developed by our staff. This past month, the students of Ms. DeVincentis's and Mrs. Simione's classes collaborated to teach the whole school about perseverance. Certainly, this is a timely value given current events! Perseverance was defined as 1. staying with the task and not giving up, 2. showing commitment, pride and a positive attitude in completing tasks, 3. trying again and again and again, and 4. being patient and willing to work hard. Posters are displayed around the school, created by students, that displays images of perseverance in different settings. During the presentation, students acted out examples and non-examples of persevering through difficult tasks, and they closed by leading the school in singing "The Power of Yet." There is a link to the slideshow they presented to the school on our website. Click under the top "News" tab and then to "Core Values Assemblies."
Read Across America
North Street Students enjoyed daily special events in honor of Read Across America Week. Thanks to the leadership of our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Zullo, students enjoyed dressing up to each day's theme, trivia contests, two estimation jars, a school-wide Drop Everything And Read, and guest readers. Specials thanks to the following community members who joined me in reading to classes: Ms. Barbara L’Italien (former State Senator), Mr. John Voto (Chief of Tewksbury PD), Ms. Katrina Lewin (Tewksbury Children's Librarian), Mr. Jay Kelly (Tewksbury Selectman), Mr. Scott Wilson (Tewksbury School Committee Member), Mr. Peter Eliopoulos (WCVB News Reporter), Mrs. Lisa Zullo (North Street reading specialist), Ms. Kristen Vogel (TMHS principal), Mr. John Weir (Wynn Principal), Mr. Jay Harding (Trahan Principal), Mrs. Felicia Cenanovic (Heath Brook Principal), and Mrs. Terry Gerrish (Dewing Principal).
