Counselors' Corner
August 2018
Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back!
It is finally here, the first week of school, and the Guidance Department could not be more excited to see Nation Ford's halls filled with students once more. We are looking forward to a great year with your students. We are also looking forward to working closely with both the students and parents to help each student in taking steps to achieve their goals after high school.
If you are new to our school, a 9th grade student or a transfer student, please be on the lookout for these newsletters, periodically released, throughout the school year. They are full of important dates, student information and tips to have the best year possible and make sure you are not missing important deadlines. Remember we are always willing and happy to talk to our parents and students please feel free to contact us at any time, and let's make this a great year!

Welcome to Nation Ford High School, Your New Home!
tips for 9th grade students:
- Ask questions. If you don't know ask a teacher, administrator or counselor. We are all here for you.
- Grades matter. Work hard and do your best. No one can ask for more than that.
- Get involved. We have over 40 clubs and over 15 different sports. If there is nothing you like, start something new!
- Make new friends, introduce yourself (they are probably just as nervous as you).
- Get organized and stay that way.
- Have a study plan and stick to it.
- Go to a school event, become part of the community.
- Advocate for yourself - talk to your teachers yourself. This is great practice for college.
tips for 9th grade parents:
- Take a deep breath. It is all going to be okay :-)!
- Use your ParentPortal.
- Encourage your students to self-advocate with teachers and counselors.
- Encourage your student to get involved in clubs, sports, and the Nation Ford community.
- Start having regular career and college talks with your student.
