Principal's Update
Brent Elementary Weekly Newsletter
Week of September 16
Although last week was a short week at Brent, we had a great time! Students actively engaged in their learning and enjoyed playing with their peers at recess. On Tuesday, students were assessed using a tool called DIBELS. This information is very important to classroom teachers in planning lessons and units. Teachers are starting to dig into the data, allowing them to get to know your students academically.
We have an exciting week coming up at Brent! There are many activities and events happening. Read below to find out more!
- Student of the Week program starts this week! Each week, classroom teachers chose a student that most exemplifies respectful, responsible, safe and problem solver behaviors. Students receive a certificate, pencil, and get their photo displayed for the week. They also sit at a special lunch table and receive extra recess time!
- Assembly & Brent Buck Store kick-off is this Friday! The entire school will participate in a "morning meeting" together! Students will learn about the Brent Buck Store where students can purchase items with their hard-earned Brent Bucks each Friday. Students can but stickers, books, school supplies, bracelets, yo-yos, extra recess, lunch with Ms. Baker, PJ day, etc. We even have an autographed football from Bengals player Giovanni Bernard! Everyone is looking forward to a great assembly!
- Superhero Family Reading Night is on Thursday! Students and families will complete a scavenger hunt around the building to complete literacy activities. Community heroes will be in attendance to show our students that not all superheroes wear capes! We hope to see you there!
Finally, If you would like a district calendar, they are available at district office!
I look forward to a great week at Brent. As always, if you need anything do not hesitate to reach out!

Counselor's Corner - From Mrs. Rouse
The 2019-2020 school year is off to a great start! I have enjoyed getting to know students, families, and our awesome new staff.
Counseling group surveys were sent home in Thursday folders. Each year, I support students through various small groups during lunch time. If you are interested and have not turned in the survey, please do so as soon as possible. Please let us know if you still need a survey. Group spots are limited and are based on student needs. I will do my best to accommodate as many students as possible and will communicate if your child will be participating. Teachers also recommend their students for particular groups. I look forward to getting groups up and running soon!
I am also excited to soon begin visiting each classroom on a weekly basis. The classroom teachers and I will co-teach social-emotional learning lessons that support character development. Lessons are developed through the Ohio Learning Standards and Brent's values of being respectful, responsible, safe, problem solvers. Lesson topic examples include whole-body listening, sharing, honesty, feelings, manners, empathy, diversity, littering, healthy habits, bullying, and more. I enjoy being a part of classrooms and helping our students become the best they can be. I will send out information about our lessons through the newsletter.
If your child is in Kindergarten and you did not yet receive a sign for your yard please let the office or myself know. You can pick them up at any time!
We are excited to welcome Nicole Bailey from Catalyst Counseling. She will have an office at Brent and Whitaker to support students through ongoing counseling therapy services. Nicole is available to meet with students during the school day. If you are interested in Catalyst support please contact me directly.
My door is always open and I can be reached at nrouse@finneytown.org or 513-728-3720.
