Weekly Update
NEXT WEEK:
WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY PARENT/STUDENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
FRIDAY: NO SCHOOL
Happy Friday Ram family and friends! As I have shared throughout the past few weeks, September is a very busy month. Many activities will be taking place in the coming weeks so please be sure to see the upcoming events section down below.
You are encouraged to participate in field trip experiences, however, you must be Safe Parish certified. To get more information on this, please visit the website and click "Join Our Team" under the "About Us" tab. https://school.saintlawrence.net/about-us/join-our-team
As you plan ahead, I want to remind you of our 1 hour late start days this year. The first of these days is Monday, September 19th. Doors open to students at 8:25 on the hour late start days.
Also, parent teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday September 14 and 15. School is dismissed at 1:00pm those days with conferences starting at 1:30pm. Please sign up below. We are aiming for 100% participation in these student led conferences.
Next week we will be starting our NWEA testing to see where are students are academically at the beginning of the year. This is a great opportunity for teachers to identify strengths and weaknesses of their classes as well as to help us set meaningful goals for the rest of the school year.
PowerSchool continues to be a challenge as we transition. Thank you all for being patient and flexible through this process. If you ever have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher(s).
Dismissal Procedures
Perhaps, if you understood where I am coming from on this, it would help. It is my responsibility as the principal to make sure that all students are safe while on school grounds. Our procedures are designed in a way that allows your child's teacher to see all of their students get into their vehicles at the end of the day. This not only means that your child is safe when they are returned to you, but it also allows us to make sure that your child is picked up by an approved (by you) person for pick-up. When you come around the building to pick up your child, the teacher has lost all ability to see who your child left with. This has happened many times already this year, where one parent did not follow the rules and came and got their child without following the procedures. Meanwhile a second parent, or grandparent, is sitting in the line, as they are supposed to do, and we can not find the child. This creates panic, not just for the parent, but for the school. We are not able to do our job and can not guarantee safety if parents are refusing to follow the rules.
I understand that people have places to be and things to do. I also understand that some of you do not want to wait in line. These are not acceptable reasons to violate the rules and place your child or someone else's child in danger.
Furthermore, the example being set by parents who are unwilling to follow the procedures is a harmful one to your child and our school culture. I expect, as do you, that the teachers lead by example, but I expect and need you to do the same. This problem continues to escalate.
Thank you to all of you who day in and day out follow the procedures and have made arrangements to make sure that your child is obeying the dismissal rules. I need all of us to be on the same page on this.
Urgent!! Curricular Material Assistance Application
This week a form was sent home with your child that needs to be returned. This allows for textbook rental assistance in order for the school to be reimbursed for books and also determine free and reduced lunch status for family assistance. Only one form needs to be returned per household, but please fill out all necessary parts. Please be sure that you return it as soon as possible.
