PLEASE USE the Take-Home COVID Tests Before Returning From Spring Break
Please be sure to use the take-home COVID test kit on Sunday prior to returning to school on Monday, April 11. Your child should have brought this test home on the last day of school before the break. There is no need to submit the results. If your student tests positive, please have them stay home and contact school health staff for more info. If they test negative, please have them return to school as usual.
Weekly in-school testing will resume Tuesday, April 12.
Also, as a reminder, indoor masks are still required for Pre-K through 12th-grade students and will become optional (but highly encouraged) beginning Monday, April 18.

AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
April is Autism Awareness Month and this month we will take time to #CelebrateDifferences. Designed to build a better awareness of the signs, symptoms, and realities of autism, #CelebrateDifferences focuses on providing information and resources for communities to be more aware of autism, promote acceptance, and be more inclusive in everyday life. Per the Autism Society, the prevalence of autism in the United States has risen from 1 in 125 children in 2010 to 1 in 54 in 2020.
Although autism impacts people regardless of race or ethnicity, there are racial and ethnic disparities in diagnosis. According to the CDC, ADDM reports have consistently noted that more white children are identified with ASD than black or Hispanic children. Previous studies have shown that stigma, lack of access to healthcare services due to non-citizenship or low-income, and non-English primary language are potential barriers to the identification of children with ASD, especially among Hispanic children. A difference in identifying black and Hispanic children with ASD relative to white children means these children may not be getting the services they need to reach their full potential.
What can you do?
Talk about Autism with your family. Our scholars will have neurodiverse students in their classrooms throughout their school career. Talking about the diversity, and normalizing the different ways we learn and experience life are the most important steps to acceptance and understanding.
Share Your Story
Want to share your story? The Autism Society publishes stories from individuals on the spectrum, professionals, friends and family members on our website and social media channels. Send the story of your journey with autism to stories@autism-society.org. Stories should be about 300 words, and please include a picture.

Bike to School Day - Volunteers Needed!
Bike to School Day - Volunteers Needed!
May is Bike to School Month. Traditionally Lin Howe students celebrate by gathering in the downtown Plaza and then ride/scoot/walk to school by traveling down Van Buren, around Farragut, and back up Irving into the Main Gate. In order for this tradition to continue, we need roughly 12 adult volunteers to help direct kids and traffic from about 8:15am-8:45am on Wednesday, May 4th. If you can serve as a volunteer, please email linhowedragonwagon@gmail.com . Once we are confident we have enough volunteers to keep our kids safe, we will move forward with the event. Thank you! -The Dragon Wagon Crew

ORDER YOUR YEARBOOK- Volunteers Needed
In additional to the online sale, we’ll also be holding an on-campus sale from Monday 4/11-Friday 4/15 (the week right after spring break). Please let us know if you could help any morning before drop-off from 8:15-8:45am
To clarify, we won’t have the physical yearbooks by then. Our goal is to actively increase the yearbook sale so that we can make good profit for the PTA. We’ll set up tables on both Irving and the Kinder/TK side where parents can order and pay via Square or cash (no checks accepted). Katie will help us set it up on Square (thank you!) and you’ll need to download the Square app onto your phone.
