Mrs. Overfield and Mrs. Hickoff, Secretaries
From the Desk of Mr. Tiemann
I am very excited to share some new technology that we had installed recently! Over the holiday break, we had our Sound System on the stage upgraded with additional speakers, a 6 disc CD changer, mixing board, 3 wireless handheld mics, and 2 corded mics! This equipment will soon be put to the test next Friday at our Just Dance Luau, and in March at our State Road Talent Show! I'd like to THANK the Shanahan family and their company "SVT" for their outstanding equipment and service, and our PTO for financially supporting most of this project!
PYP in Action at State Road
Over the past couple months the students here at State Road have been inquiring about this year’s CNN Heroes., which is an award-winning television special created by CNN to honor individuals who make extraordinary contributions to humanitarian aid and make a difference in their communities. Miss Guerra’s and Mrs. Hejka’s class decided to take action and inform our school about these great heroes. They created a display in the hallway, showcasing each one, and right before Thanksgiving all of the school had an opportunity to vote on which one of the 10 they wanted to win. Pen Farthing ended up being the winner! Pen Farthing is an amazing man who founded a nonprofit that reunites soldiers with stray dogs and cats they took in during combat. Well it looks like our students know a hero when they see one! He ended up winning the 2014 CNN Hero award as well! There were a couple of other things that students did to take action, too. Mrs. Mullins' class recently did a Google Hangout with another nominee from Southfield, MI, Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg. It was a great opportunity for the students to meet a local CNN Hero nominee and ask questions about his actions. The overall experience has opened up the minds of the students here at State Road, making them want to take action to make a difference.

STATE ROAD IS RECYCLING!!! Thank you for your support!!!
We are continuing to make progress on our recycling programs and have added new items to our list! We are now recycling any brand toothpaste (empty tubes and caps), toothbrushes (and packaging), and floss containers! In just over 2 months we have managed to keep more than 80.5 lbs. of material out of the landfill!!! Please continue to encourage your student(s) to recycle during lunch and continue sending in any juice pouches, fruit & vegetable squeeze pouches, tape dispensers (outside plastic case and/or center roll) writing utensils (pens, sharpies, mechanical pencils, and markers), printer cartridges and glue bottles. State Road earns $$ through these programs, so it really is a double win for all of us! Thank You!

Please Help Prevent the Spread of Sickness, Head Lice, etc...
Parents: We have had a few reported cased of the flu and strep throat this past week. The best way to prevent the spread of sickness, communicable diseases, or issues such as head lice is to take preventative steps at home prior to sending your child to school. Please also contact the office right away to let us know of any sickness or confirmed case of lice that your child may have. For more ‘health’ related information, please visit the State Road website and select “Student Health Info” under the Information Tab. Thank you!
