Playground

It has come to my attention there has been some discussion on social media regarding our playground. I wanted to communicate directly with you about this since it involves student safety. Last week, I received a playground inspection report that was done last year by Playground Inspections of New England. It is my understanding that some maintenance has been done on the playground since that report was completed and additional parts have been ordered (including a new slide) that should be arriving shortly. Regardless, I am meeting with Superintendent Howard and the head of facilities maintenance tomorrow morning to review this report in detail, check repairs that were made, and ensure that the playground does not pose a safety risk to children. We are also meeting with the writer of the report to review each item and determine exactly what steps need to be taken to be sure our playground is safe for children.

There is no doubt we need to review the overall status of our playground and determine what actions should be taken moving forward in regards to new equipment and resurfacing. This is a project that we have discussed over the past few years and one that will involve fundraising and an extensive plan. It was my understanding last year that our playground was next on the list for upgrades until the parks committee was disbanded. I intend to discuss this at our next PTO meeting on December 13th at 6:30PM. If you have thoughts or ideas on this subject, please try and attend.

Important Reminder!

We have been noticing many students are not bringing hats, jackets, and gloves to school. We try to make sure students can go outside and get fresh air each day unless it becomes a safety concern. Until it gets bitter cold, we will continue to have outdoor recess. Please make sure students have these items with them on the colder days or they will have to stay inside.

PBIS Assembly: Dream Big!

Did your child come home Friday asking to watch the Disney movie Miracle on Ice? Well, that's because to end the week, we had a great experience when Winthrop legend and 1980 Olympic Hockey Team member Mike Eruzione spoke to our students about dreams, hard work, and being a good person. Click HERE for a quick clip. Our PBIS program, which was launched at the beginning of this year includes a monthly assembly to focus on one of our school's core values. This month's core value was DREAM and lessons in our social and emotional learning block will be targeting how goal setting, hard work, and being a part of team can all lead to achieving great things.

Upcoming Event: International Night!

This Wednesday, December 6th, please stop by International Night in the cafetorium from 6-7PM. This is one of the best events of the year as we celebrate the various cultures within our community. Last year, there were dishes from China, Brazil, Albania, Morocco, Romania, Ireland, Egypt, and many more. Students receive a "passport" when they arrive and have it stamped at each country they visit. This is a fun, free event that showcases our diversity as a town. Come stop by and have some fun! Below: A pic from last year's event!
