Book Fair/March is Reading Month
Our theme for March is the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing. Look for the March Reading Calendar to come home this week. March 1 is Friday.
English
We will continue reading the novel A Long Walk to Water. Students have a digital notebook where they are recording their thoughts about the book as well as some of the topics it covers, such as the Sudanese Civil War and the lack of water in that part of the world. Many students are writing their own stories about survival, while others are choosing to research some of the countries we are learning more about.
We will have our usual grammar/vocabulary quiz on Friday as well.
Enrichment Writing
Math
Last week, we were able to move forward with a full week of learning. Students are working with concepts from Chapter 6 and Chapter 7. Last week, they learned how to convert units of length in the U.S. customary system and the metric system. They also learned how to evaluate exponents. At the end of the week, students were writing algebraic expressions. They have 3 assignments due on Monday. They are: Page 361(2-10)/Page 362(1-4,6), Page 367(2-10)/Page 368(1-4,6), and Page 373(2-14)/Page 374(1-6).
This week, students will learn how to convert units of capacity. They will also learn more about algebraic expressions.
Enrichment Math
Last week, students were introduced to the concept of slope. This week, we will be continuing our understanding of slope and how to find the slope of a line.
Social Studies
Science
The students were assigned a research project last week where they chose a specific plate formed natural disaster or landform and began researching their choice. We will continue to look at the rock cycle and how it applies to plate tectonics.
