Cape's Mission & Vision
Vision: We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of Cape Elementary is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community.
Hi Cape Families,
First and foremost, we hope your family is doing well during this unprecedented and challenging time. We miss seeing our Cape kids’ smiles each day. Thank you for the photos, the appreciation and the helpful feedback. Your positive responses are affirming the truly amazing work our Cape teachers are doing to translate their teaching expertise into effective distance learning. We appreciate you as well for doing your best to carve out space and time in your work and home life to support your children’s learning.
We are working to get it right – the workload, an appropriate amount of time with students, the expectations for learning and a balance of work time, down time, play time and family time. We will continue to listen for feedback and adjust.
Over the last week, parents and students have expressed appreciation for the creative ways teachers are engaging students through activities like virtual Morning Meetings, small and large group chats, live and videoed lessons, story “hours”, posting funny motivational videos, spirit days like Crazy Hat day in Zoom, and teaching in a Google Hangout.
We do know that learning is most effective when it is a social experience, and our teachers and administrators are striving to maintain social interaction despite mandated social distancing.
We are so very grateful to our teachers for creating positive remote learning environments with instruction and guidance that is appropriate to the age and grade of their students. With that, we are especially grateful to parents. We know that balancing work, family, and school isn’t easy for anyone.
As our students are experiencing so much new, we want you to know we are here to help and support. Our school counselor, Shelly Boeck, and our social worker, Erin Dalla Costa, have many resources. Please call the school if your child or family needs anything.
For everyone’s protection, Cape is closed to the public. Please email us if you need anything at NicoleDO@Leeschools.net. For up-to-date information, please visit our website and Facebook page along with staying in contact with your child’s teacher.
Thank you to the staff and parents who have been doing an amazing job during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Ms. Osterholm and Mrs. Sund

Chromebook Care at Home
Even though Chromebooks are cleaned over the summer, they will need regular cleaning by the student. Your student is responsible for the Chromebook for the time it is checked out to them. These are unusual times and Chromebooks should be cleaned on a weekly basis, or between users when possible.
Connect to Internet at Home
- At the bottom right, select the time.
- Select Not Connected.
- Your Chromebook will automatically look for available networks and show them to you in a list.
- Select your home Wi-Fi Network.
- Enter your home Wi-Fi password.
- Select Connect.
Switching Users
- At the bottom, select the time.
- Click Sign Out at the top of the menu that pops up.
Disinfecting
- Use a disinfectant wipe on top, trackpad, palm rest and keyboard. Do not use on screen.
- On the screen use a damp cloth and gently wipe.
- Charge the Chromebook every day.
- Do not carry the Chromebook by the screen.
- When traveling with the Chromebook, please be sure to use the provided case.
Breaks
- If there are black spots and/or cracks on the screen, the screen is broken and will require replacement.
- If it is a small break in the corner replacement can wait, but refrain from carrying it by the screen.
- Missing keys will require replacement.
- Before turning the Chromebook in for replacement, please remove all stickers, pencil and marker marks that the student has applied.
- The disinfectant wipes also do a good job of removing pencil and marker.
- Details on when, where, and how replacements will happen will be released soon.
Common Issues
- Student forgot their password. Contact the school, via phone, for a password reset.
- White “Enterprise Enrollment” Screen - will not take students password. Has @leeschools.net on the login screen. Should have @students.leeschools.net Must bring in for the school to re-enroll the Chromebook.
- If the trackpad (mouse) stops working please hook an external mouse to it (USB Only). It can be fixed once things return to normal.
- Unit not turning on. Normally due to not being charged.
- Allow the unit to charge for 20 minutes and try again.
- Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
- Try a new outlet.
- Make sure all connections are secure.
- Unplug the charger from both the Chromebook and the power outlet, then plug it back in to reset the charger.
