McKinley Mustang Newsletter
March 8th- 12th
A Note From Mrs. Larson
Hi Wonderful McKinley families,
I am so excited that we have the dates ready for Hybrid Learning-- April 12 TK-6 and April 19th for 7th and 8th. Look for a special video coming this week that will show you all of the preparations we have made so far in our buildings for safety.
My apologies, I always pride myself on my quick turnaround on emails and communication. This last week my plate was really full. Not only are we getting ready for Hybrid but we are in the midst of registration for the 2021-2022 school year. Thank you for your patience.
As a reminder, it's really important to pay attention to all communication sent out. In the coming weeks, I will have lots of information and details on how students will come to school. I will also host a "Back to School Night" of sorts right before we come back.
Have a wonderful week Mustangs!
Woman's History Month
Every year March is designated Women’s History Month by Presidential proclamation. The month is set aside to honor women’s contributions to American history.
Did You Know? Women’s History Month started as Women’s History Week
Women’s History Month began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California. The Education Task Force of the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women planned and executed a “Women’s History Week” celebration in 1978. The organizers selected the week of March 8 to correspond with International Women’s Day. The movement spread across the country as other communities initiated their own Women’s History Week celebrations the following year.
In 1980, a consortium of women’s groups and historians—led by the National Women’s History Project (now the National Women's History Alliance)—successfully lobbied for national recognition. In February 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation declaring the Week of March 8th, 1980 as National Women’s History Week.
Look for a fun Mrs. Larson read aloud celebrating Woman's history Month

On Wednesday, March 10th, your students will have the opportunity to meet and listen (via Zoom) to NY Times bestselling author (and one of Copperfield's favorites), Stuart Gibbs (author of all the Spy School, Fun Jungle, and Space Camp books)!!! and here's an opportunity to order his newest books! We can't recommend them highly enough! He's here to launch the second book in his Charlie Thorne series, Charlie Thorne and the Lost City
Stuart's newest series - about kids who work undercover for the CIA - and one kid, in particular, Charlie Thorne -is so much fun. And Stuart? He's a delight and such a great presenter.
The cool thing about this event is that it's happening on the day the book comes out - the book's BIRTHDAY (honest, that's what we call it!) and I'm hoping all the kids can write the words "Happy Book Birthday" on a sheet of paper, and at the count of three - when I say so! - hold them up for Stuart to see. He'll be blown away!
While he's visiting via Zoom, he'll be reading, taking questions, and talking about what it takes to write a book. It should be a great time! Please help your kids enjoy the connection with a fabulous author and - while you're at it - support your local independent bookstore!
Each of the Charlie Thorne books can be ordered here (and we're going to try to get them autographed). Books can be picked up at Copperfield's beginning 3/12 - we'll email you when they're ready!
We are so delighted to be bringing Stuart to Sonoma County schools again - and to introduce him to the kids at McKinley! We know you'll have a great time!
