Weekly Update
August 29-September 2, 2022
A Message from the Principal
MAP Benchmarks have been completed and we will be reaching out if we recommend your child be in a reading or math intervention.
We had our first fire drill and bus evacuation this week, the students did a great job!
This year on Fridays for the first 15 minutes of Tiger Time the entire school will be reading. WE as a school want to build the love of reading and make sure students are given the opportunity to read for enjoyment not because it is an assignment. Students may read library books, magazines, newspapers, listen to playaways but they can not read on their iPad this makes sure they are not tempted to play games.
Couple of things-
1. If you are wanting your child in 6-8th grade to be able to take their iPad home we need to have their signed form on file as well as the $50 fee paid in order for that to go home.
2. Please write in the memo on checks what the money is for so we make sure it gets in the proper accounts.
3. Reminder Cell Phones are turned off and in backpacks while we are in the school building.
4. Next week iPad write-ups will start. Students need to be prepared and responsible with their iPads when at school.
- iPads must be fully charged and ready each day
- Students are not allowed to take the case off, peel off the labels or add stickers
- If a student doesn't have a form or fee paid or they are school use only they are responsible for turning their iPad in every day.
- Unless a teacher has allowed free time, iPads are for homework and assignment use only students should not be on YouTube or playing games during class time.

Connecting with the Counselor
Each week, I will include a short description of the activity that your student participated in as part of their Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Students complete their SEL lessons with their Advisory teacher every Wednesday during Tiger Time. You, the parent/guardian, are your child's first and most important Social Emotional Learning teacher. I would encourage you to ask your student about what they learned about that week during their SEL time. To help facilitate this discussion, I will include some talking points to bring up with your student.
This week was our first counselor lesson! I will be visiting your student's class every Wednesday as part of their rotations in the afternoon. This week, I spent some time introducing myself. Then, played a game to learn a little bit about them. Next week, we will talk about what my role as their school counselor looks like.
Ask your student...
1. What is something you learned about Mrs. Schrader this week?
2. What is your favorite thing about 5th grade so far?
3. What is the biggest change from the Elementary School?
6th, 7th, 8th Grade
This week, students spent time talking about Organization and Preparedness. Getting back into the swing of switching classes and remembering what they need for each class takes some time to get used to, so we spent some time trying to get all of that organized.
Ask your student...
1. Tell me about your locker schedule? When will you be visiting your locker during the day?
2. What are some strategies that you learned to keep yourself organized?
3. Have your student show you their planner. Look at the tools that this planner provides in assisting them with organization.
