What Are Students Learning In The Library?
Students in Mrs. Werther's Contemporary Literature class have created a book display for the library entrance called "My Ideal Bookshelf." Based on the book by Thessaly La Force, this display features titles that students have enjoyed over the course of their reading lives, as well as books they'd recommend to their peers.
- developing a topic proposal;
- developing useful search terms;
- selecting databases that meet their research need;
- selecting a balance of resources, such as magazine articles, news, academic journals and non-print media;
- making meaning based on reading new information;
- writing annotated bibliography entries;
- determining credibility of web resources.
Dr. Moore's English 12 AP students are examining critical essays for literary analysis and synthesizing their own interpretation based on their reading. These students utilize Library databases, as well as items that are loaned from area universities.
Mrs. Richard's and Mrs. Fountain's English 11 AP students are conducting inquiry research on a variety of topics related to criminal justice. These students are learning about:
- balancing scholarly and popular sources
- how to use scholarly sources
- how search terms are used differently in a daabase vs. a search engine
- the etiquette of panel discussion as opposed to debate
