What's going on in Class???
Reading
In Reading we have been spending time enjoying books. It is important for students to realize that in order to become better readers they must first be able to enjoy reading. Here are some topics we have discussed: Why do we read, How to choose a "Just Right" book, and reading is thinking. This week we will be discussing how to abandon books, different kinds of fiction books, and how to "buzz effectively." For homework, every night students will receive a reading sheet on information text; this will help them with reading comprehension.
Writing
Thanks for all of your help with creating our writing notebooks, they were really creative!! In Writing we have started to discuss how to write narrative pieces. Students need to realize that they have stories in their head and how they can effectively create pieces of writing from their stories. We are having fun in class as we write and discuss the many stories we go through day by day.
Math
I'm excited about the new math book that we will be starting this week. Last week we spent time discussing some mathematical practices and how to become effective problem solvers. This week we will be discussing Place Value and Comparing Numbers. Students will have math homework this week, this allows time for students to practice math outside of class.
Science
We use booklets in class to organize what we are learning. We have been doing hands on activities to learn about the different Science Process Skills. This week we will be discussing Safety Rules. The students will have an open notebook quiz on Friday.
SC History
Thanks for all of the pictures, the SC History notebooks look spectacular!! Last week we discussed the importance of History, this week we will be discussing maps and the symbols of South Carolina. The students will receive a study guide this week for Chapter 1. The test will be next Monday, please check your child's agenda for more information.
