Hopefully, these next 7 days will be a welcomed VACATION for everyone! This is the "breather" before the home stretch ... when classes resume in a week, the Brickie spring sports season will be in full swing (particularly for golf, softball & baseball)!! Enjoy some much needed rest and we will see you all soon!
Even though we're on vacation ... it's still time for BricksCenter!
Track & Field
Both the long jump (Miller) & pole vault (Johnston) competitions began at 9am ET on Saturday morning.
Miller, who finished 13th in the long jump at last spring's IHSAA State Finals, was making his first appearance at the HSR Finals ... and he SHINED BRIGHT! Gavin launched his body 20'9" into the sand and placed 12th overall!!
For Johnston, who spent the last two weekends WINNING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS while competing in New York City (Nike Indoor Nationals) and Virginia Beach (Adidas Indoor Nationals), flying high and finishing on the podium are becoming the norm! On Saturday, he SOARED to a height of 17' to claim 1ST PLACE and earn the title of Hoosier State Relays CHAMPION!!! This is Cody's 2nd CONSECUTIVE HSR TITLE! In 2022, he set a new meet record at 16'7" ... in 2023 he BROKE HIS OWN RECORD TO WIN AGAIN!! INCREDIBLE!!!
Now that the indoor part of the spring season is officially over, the focus shifts outside and for Miller, Johnston & the rest of the Hobart tracksters, the goal will be the finish that part of the season in Bloomington as well!!

Cody Johnston is the 2023 HSR Pole Vault CHAMPION!
Softball & Baseball
Well ... the Brickies were hoping to SHINE BRIGHT on the Diamond this past week in their season-opening scrimmages, but unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Rainy conditions throughout the week combined with some cold temps caused cancellations.
Weather permitting, both softball and baseball will begin their spring seasons this week! Here are a few things to keep in mind when you take someone out to the ballgame:
1. If you build it, he will come. - Field of Dreams
2. There's no crying in baseball (or softball). - A League of Their Own
3. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. - The Sandlot
