Dear Masconomet Middle School Families,

I have a few important updates for you this week as we look forward to April 26. This is a long newsletter this week as I have much to share, so please bear with me and read through to the end!

Upcoming Calendar Dates:

April 13- Early Release @ 12:30- HS SATs for Juniors

• April 17- April 25- Spring Vacation

• April 26- Return to full time, in-person school

• April 26- Delayed Opening

• May 3- Delayed Opening

• May 17- Delayed Opening

April 13 Early Release

April 13 will be an Early Release Day at 12:30 pm due to the administration of the SATs to the Junior Class in the field house. Due to the logistical challenges involved with not being able to hold lunches in the field house, students will attend classes in an abbreviated schedule. We will offer grab and go lunches after the conclusion of SATs for interested students beginning at 12:30 in the field house. Busses will depart at 1:00 pm. Late busses will depart at 2:00 pm. Please see the schedule below.

Delayed Openings

April 26, May 3, and May 17 will all be delayed openings to account for the transition of students back to Masconomet Middle and High Schools on a full time basis. Please note that buses will begin their routes 2.5 hours later than normal. Please click here for the link to our bus routes for their normally scheduled stops and times and then adjust to 2.5 hours later.

Classes will begin at 10 am. Please click here to view the schedule or see below.

MCAS Testing

We will be administering MCAS exams in May and June, and I will share the test schedule with families as the date draws closer. We received word from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regarding the test window, which is May 17- June 11. DESE also said that they will provide a remote test for remote learners. I will be following up with additional information.

Math Placement Test

Thursday and Friday of this week, more than 140 seventh graders participated in a two-part math placement test for students interested in taking algebra 1 honors in grade 8. After vacation, there will be an opportunity for students who missed one or both of the test sessions to participate in this assessment process. A makeup session for students who did not take part one of the placement test (given Thursday, April 8) is scheduled for Tuesday, April 27, 4:00 – 4:50 pm. A makeup session for students who did not take part two of the placement test (given Friday, April 9) is scheduled for Thursday, April 29, 4:00 – 4:50 pm. I will send a follow up email on Monday with details and more information about make ups for students who were already signed up to take the test.

Bus Information

Everyone was given a Bus Route to begin the school year. Even if you originally chose remote, your Bus # still appears in your Power School Account. To check the bus routes, please click this link. You can see what stop is nearest your house and what time the bus stops there approximately. To find your bus route number in Powerschool, login and click "My Schedule" where your Bus number will be shown at the top of the page as shown in the example below.

Full Time, In-person Learning FAQ

I have a prepared a list of Frequently Asked Questions in regards to full time, in-person learning. This is a working document, so I will be adding to it as necessary. Please click here to access this document.

Mass. Travel Advisory

All families travelling out of state for more than 24 hours, including over the April vacation week, must quarantine or show results of a negative COVID PCR test administered within 72 hours, upon arrival. Results of that test must be shared the school nurse, Gwen Lemire. Please refer to Dr. Harvey’s letter for more details.

Have a good weekend,

Phil McManus
