R FACTOR DISCIPLINE #3: STEP UP
NOVEMBER/DECEMBER FOCUS: #3 STEP UP
FOCUS #3 Step Up
- Respond with discipline. What are you doing to accomplish your goal?
- Emphasis on what we can control.
- Remember life is not lived in a straight line. We need to take action, step up, get involved if you don't like how something is being done.
- Contribute to a solution don't add to a problem.
This month we are focusing on Stepping Up!
Life will challenge you, repeatedly. Circumstances will push you to go beyond your comfort zone, to do better, to go further, to perform at the next level, to step up.
If you want any kind of meaningful achievement, you will have to fight for it. And that's a good thing. The struggle is part of life. It is hard and often painful. It's also necessary, because it's in the struggle that greatness is formed.
Step Up Now
The R Factor happens in the moment. The only time available to you to Step Up and
Respond with discipline is now. You can’t step up in the past: it is over. And you can’t step up in the future: it hasn’t arrived yet. That leaves ... right now.
Dwelling on the past or worrying about the future will only drain you of energy and distract you from focusing on what you can control. So be fully present right here, right now and win the moment.
Step Up Every Day
As you apply The R Factor to your life and work, keep in mind that for every goal you are
pursuing there is a pathway. Stepping Up is not an occasional “heroic response.” It is
focused daily action. Not just once or twice, but over and over, every day. By applying The R Factor consistently over time you can achieve almost anything.
Sometimes it’s a grind. Sometimes there are tedious and uncomfortable things that are
required for success. And that means doing what needs to be done even though you don’t feel like it. It will be uncomfortable, maybe even for long stretches, and it will be tempting to settle for a lesser way that is more convenient and less painful. Don’t compromise. Don’t give in. Step up and embrace the value of daily discipline.
IMPORTANT HEALTH SCREENING AVAILABLE
Dear Parents,
We wanted to make our community aware of an excellent opportunity that’s been made available to all our students and athletes ages 12 - 22 at Fairview High School. We are partnering with mCORE™ — Mobile Cardiac Overview and Risk Evaluation — to screen our students/athletes for the cardiac conditions and abnormalities which may put them at risk of Sudden Cardiac Death (SCA). SCA Is The #1 Killer of Young Athletes.
SCA is the result of unsuspecting cardiological disease or abnormalities which cause the heart to stop without warning or symptoms. We hear about several student-athletes each year that are lost to this devastating tragedy, many of which could have been prevented with a simple examination like this.
Please see the Details on the Screening Date and Time Below:
Date: Tuesday December 5, 2017
Time: 8:00am - 4:00 pm
Location: Training Room
Cost: $75
The time requirement is approximately 10-12 minutes per student or athlete. Each student will be given an EKG and Echo screening and these tests typically cost more than $2000 in a clinical setting. The screening age range is 12-22 years old. You may use your Healthcare Spending Account or Flex Care Spending Account. All screenings are performed by a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer and results are read by the mCORE Medical Director Dr. Kenneth Berkovitz, MD. Board Certified in Cardiovasucular Disease, Interventional Cardiology and Internal Medicine.(Please contact mCORE should financial hardship preclude you from taking part)
STUDENTS MUST PRE-REGISTER ONLINE FOR THE SCREENING BY USING LINK OR

FFA NATIONAL CONVENTION
The Fairview FFA attended the 90th FFA National Convention on October 25- 28 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The chapter started their trip by touring the Reproduction Specialty Group facility in Lebanon, Indiana. This operation specializes in sheep reproduction through surgical artificial insemination and embryonic transfer. The reproduction tour was followed by a tour of Traders Point Creamery in Zionsville, Indiana. This Creamery is a 100% grass-fed operation.
The chapter toured Umbarger Show Feeds in Bargersville, Indiana. The chapter was able to see how Umbarger Show Feeds mixes, packages, and distributes their feed. Umbarger Show Feeds makes all their feed on a day- by- day basis so it is fresh when the consumer purchases it. A few years ago, Umbarger purchased a robotic bag stacker to increase their storage capacity and to save manual labor for their employees. The Umbarger tour was followed up by a tour of Ozark Fish Hatchery in Martinsville, Indiana. Ozark Fish Hatchery is a family owned Fish farm that produces and sells Goldfish and Koi. Ozark is a fish supplier for Walmart, Meijer, pet stores, and local landscape companies.
On the trip, the chapter attended multiple sessions, a hypnosis show, and a Rascal Flatts concert.
The chapter ended the trip by attending the American Degree Ceremony, where graduate member, Emily Culler, received her American Degree. The chapter would also like to recognize two Four County FFA members, who are former Fairview FFA members, Preston Zeedyk and Brooks Grine, for receiving the American FFA Degree.
